My idea seems bizarre but the more that you think of it you will realise that it makes the penalty shoot out scenario less of a lottery and encourages teams to go out and win the game.

Does Ned know about this? Are we about to see the first NSC divorce of 2006? How come the Screws of the World missed this bit of scandal?

;)

I'll let you be the first to tell him.

Something wrong with your maths Slim. If the game were to finish 2-1 to Wigan they would go through winning 3-1 on aggregate.

I think what you meant to say was that if Wigan drew level 1-1 . . . . . .

dougdeep doesn't care a toss anyway.

2-1 to Arsenal.

I did type that, and then changed it for some reason!!

I'm behind you!
Have you got a crystal ball Slim?

Hey you two who are having an affair, "He's right, you know?" whether you care or not. It's only gone and happened.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention in the first place Slim. I'm with you Mate. "Bloody unfair. Shouldn't be allowed."

Although Wigan did deserve it and I did want them to win, if I was an Arsenal fan I would be pretty pissed off.

Although it might shut that cheating little twat Reyes up.

Let's face it Wigan would've humped 'em on penalties anyway. :clap2:

And also encourages the team that won the penalty shootout at half time to sit on the draw and kill the game.

I can't be anti Arsenal, my uncle has been a season ticket holder for years - he bleeds Arsenal.

I don't agree with the away goals either, but I glad to see Wigan go through after the three penalties they were denied.

How many teams are good enough to shut up shop and defend continually for 45 + minutes.

If you use last nights game as an example had Arsenal won the penalty shoot out at Half time they would have pushed on to get a goal to level the scores knowing they had won. Wigan on the other hand would have pushed for a second goal knowing that if Arsenal scored one they would be out or as you say shut up shop for a draw and would they be able to hold Arsenal for another 45 minutes, would they be prepared to take the chance.

Had Wigan won the shoot out they would then have probably shut up shop knowing they would win and try to avoid conceeding a goal but Arsenal would have thrown everything at them as that would be the only way to get through. Wigan would have been no worse or better off than they actually were last night defending a 1 goal lead.

Remember the penalty shoot out only comes into play after the extra time so it would mean a team defending not 45 minutes but 75 minutes a much more difficult task so much so that they probably wouldn't try to sit and defend it.

But then it leads to teams having to put decent penalty takers on the bench rather than subs that might actually be needed in the game but don't want to take penalties. It's never going to happen.

If that is the case Arsenal could have had 3 specialist penalty takers opn the bench last night and then in the last 30 secs bring them on.

I just think that the existing system is wrong and my idea is worth a try in say the LDV or in a Junior Cup Competition. Anything to improve the game asa spectacle is, in my opinion worth trying. Whata stupid idea 3 pts for a win!!!
