"Ask the Club"

I think this Virgo sale has highlighted the sham that "Ask the Club" is now. In the old days, "Insider" would be the one who broke the news to NSC. I remember the day we bought Zamora, and how that news was broken. Now all we get is some crap cliches. Can we not get rid of it, give "Insider" a new name & get the truth earlier!

I wasn't around for the Zamora signing and such but I know what you mean.
On big news such as this there is usually nothing from Insider until it's on the OS anyway.

The club market certain services with the guarantee that they will be the first to disseminate information like this. It's good for the revenue for the club to do that. Having a go at the more specialised, in-depth answering service that Insider provides - and a totally free one at that - for not breaking news like transfers is not appropriate - it's never been for that.

Exactly my point - we used to have the "Insider" as an invaluable source of inside information. Now it's as dull as dishwater with nothing insightful at all.

As an example, the Ape recently asked whether we were going to get an Arsenal player on loan. The predictable "we're having a look blah blah blah" response inevitably came up. So what's the point?

The Insider service the club offer is a fantastic opportunity for "any" fan to talk to the club and is probably a completely unique service that no other club offers.

OK some of the questions are not appropriate but hopefully Insider doesn't get bored with them.

Insider is not there to act as a press releaser but as our "friend" at the club.

Long may this service continue

There are always going to be questions that the club are unable to answer in a public forum. Most of us are aware of that and won't ask:

"Are we about to sign player X?" because we know that the club just could not say. For a start, 'Insider' is unlikely to be privvy to all of McGhee's behind-the-scenes transfer discussions.

However there are a number of questions that are important to fans that can be answered and that is what the forum is for.

Simply Tim - if you don't like it, don't look in it - your blood pressure may be that much lower as a result.

As an aside, the club have asked if NSC can provide a news ticker that will detail all of the latest club news and I'm looking into that now.

I'm not worried about it - just interested in what others think about it. Personally I don't view it, but was wondering what others thought about it - that's all. I won't be having a triple by-pass quite yet Bozza.

I prefer Stumpy Tim to Simply Tim btw :)

I might have missed something but I thought Ask the Club was a place for fans to ask questions not for the club to announce transfers. Also, moaning about the Arsenal player question is pointless. The Insider has never answered those types of questions and probably couldn't even if he wanted to.

I'm with Simple Tim on this one. :)

The only reason the forum was set up was to nip in the bud potentially damaging rumours such as Ben's Grandad's misappropriation of the play off final funds. The other stuff is mostly a waste of time and space and I hardly bother apart from one question I asked the day NSC died.

Most of the questions can be asked via email to other departments and we can all predict the answers to the more interesting questions anyway as they don't really get answered until after the event.

There appears to be a couple of new 'insiders' on the block anyway to render the ask the club section pointless.

The news ticker thing would be good though.

That's a bit naive - a big move to Celtic would cause a buzz around the whole club and they probably know a youth player. Most goings on in the club will not be known by youth players. I'm not saying that the club's PR guy will know everything but he will certainly know more than their "contact"

What's naive about it? I don't expect the club to answer such questions so my point was - what's the point?
