I think it is a cultural thing, and nothing to do with racism.

There's never been a famous black swimmer or black snooker player - nothing to do with racism, it's just that they don't historically take part in these sports. Tiger Woods hasn't exactly got black kids flocking to the golf course either...

Is n't it also something to do with the opportunities that are open to people at certain times and what their aspirations are ? Between the wars there were a large number of Jewish boxers in the US and South Africa (as well as a British champion). These days I supect there are very few.
