Ashley Barnes, will go on to be a great Brighton player!! But he needs our help, needs us to praise him when he plays well, and support him when he doesn't.

Ok he is no L.Messi, and he knows that, but he has got an abundance of skill, and he just needs to develop a little further, before he grabs this league by the scruff of the neck, and becomes a goal scoring machine.

After all Sir Gus must see something in Big Ash, or he would not play him week in week out.

Trust Gus, Trust Ashley, and FFS he is one of ours, so please get off his back, cos you would hate to see him leave at the end of the season and become a superstar in his own right, where under the right tutoring, he can be.

Just get off of his case will you!!!!

Well said Slinky, I have come on here and defended Ash a lot and it is great to see some people backing him, but we all need to club together and support him and the team no matter what, He WILL be a good player but he needs to learn and adapt, this is his first full season in the championship where he is playing most of the games and someone on here quite rightly said with his stats, his goals/assists to appearences ratio we would pay £2m for a player of that calibure!!

Really disappointed by some of the treatment of Ashley Barnes on this message board since Tuesday evening. Lets just hope he isn't one of the players who reads NSC.

I think we need some perspective. What was Ashley Barnes when we signed him? A raw 20 year old with an abysmal goalscoring record for every club he had previously played for (with the exception of Eastbourne Borough in the Blue Square South) and a product of the legendary Paulton Rovers youth system, known for producing such legends as and .

His positional sense was poor and his link play was very poor.

Since then, Gus has moulded him into a good little Championship player, and if you look at his incredibly rapid progress over the last two seasons, why shouldn't we believe that he will become a very very good Championship player, and possibly more? He is 21 for f*** sake - allow him to develop.

Against Leeds, he set up both CMS goals and scored a sublime penalty. 90 minutes on the right wing later..... and he's apparently useless.

Overall, he has played very well this season. He seems to be getting abuse for the simple fact that he isn’t Glenn Murray. Totally unfair on a young lad who has come leaps and bounds since we signed him.

Glenn Murray is 28. Of course he is going to be more accomplished. Where was Murray playing his football at 21 years old?!

Well, Barrow had just signed him from Wilmington Hammerheads.

Don't believe me? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Murray

Give Ashley a break. Good lad and will go on to be a quality player.

Go on Ash

Nice to know some people have some sense!
Ashley Barnes!!!

He will be a decent player in the future. Maybe a good Championship striker or maybe a bad premier league team's striker (if he shows a remarkable improvement), but he can learn his trade in the dev squad for now as we have plenty of other players who can play in his position that he's keeping out the squad.

Not according to Gus, who I believe is probably a bit more familiar with the squad and their abilities than you are.
