As a youth, whats the thing you're proudest of doing?

For me, it'll be getting thorugh tomorrow.

I'm taking 8 or 9 young people up to the International Youth Arts Theatre Festival where we will be opening the festival which sees people from all over the world come to Kingston to show their work. The group i work with is a not for profit, open equal oppertunities group that provides this kind of event for everyone who is interested and committed enough.

We've lost our leading lady who was told dates a week after she booked a holiday, and her replacement has had an accident which means one of the young people have to take up a role she spent a week or two filling in for when we were divising our piece.

If we get through tomorrow, put on a good show and it all goes well, i'll be really proud because i've ran the youth theatre with another person my age for the last year. Just being able to provide this oppertunity to talented yet hard-to-reach young people is a great feeling.

But NSC, what is YOUR proudest moment as a youth? ???
What have you done that has made you feel warm inside?

Getting a job when I was 15, something youth today don't seem to concern with.

Same here. Can't stand the tax-dodgers. Stop EMA right now. Why should they get paid to turn up to college and socialise?

Other way around, surely!

Don't stop EMA, infact, extend it to all college goers at a flat rate of 20 pounds.

We can't really get jobs now because of an increased retirement age and the workload required to do A-levels. We can't sign on because we're not old enough. EMA should go to everyone at college.

Bonus's should be scrapped, and they are going to be from September 2010.

I had a job when doing my 4 A-levels. College was a piece of piss, and I always had plenty of time to go out with mates, do my college work AND have a job.

Depends on which field of employ your after. I am down staff and hiring the right sort is very maddening. Most show no enthusiasm and are down right lazy. In my day my mates would hand me their CV's begging to get a job. Just saying like.

Dont' get me wrong. We've got a much larger proportion of lazy wankers than any generation before us.

But we've also got it harder to actually get jobs, because work places can now ask for experience as a requirement rather than as a luxury because the older, getting close to retirement unemployed have that over us. I'd be well proud to get a job, and have gone about handing my CV out gagging for a job

You can't sign on? Says who? ???

Why should you get money? You chose to go to college, ponce about for 2 years, leave college, then be in the same situation you'd have been in had you not gone to college. This is the case for 75% of people anyway.

Fair play. I've taken 4 quite heavy subjects though, and find it hard to balance everything sometimes.

But, this thread isn't about jobs and their availibility, its about what you did when you woz a yoof that made you proud!

Good thread.

Not sure, really. Maybe learning a language, or travelling by myself with no major f**k-ups. But also paying off big term-time college debts every summer by working like a dog at Gatwick.

I'm in the 25% that wish to gain 3 relevent A2's and 5 AS's, go to Uni, get a degree in computing forensics, child psychology with a view to go in to police work with children, or politics, and definatly to not ponce about.

And i always thought the minimum age for signing on to get unemployment benifit was 18?

Maybe i got the wrong end of the stick, we were doing unemployment statistics in sociology, and those under 18 weren't counted in them because they couldn't sign on... i thought.

If you go on to do that, then fair play.

You have to be 16 to sign on.

As did I, but that's beside the point.

With regards to your £20 a week flat payment for going to college theory, that is possibly the worst idea I've ever heard. The point of CHOOSING to go to college is to further your education, and the results and certificates at the end of the 2 years should be reward enough.

I chose to go to college so I could go to university. I would never expect money for doing so, and thankfully it will soon be compulsary for kids to stay on at college or do an apprenticeship until they're 18.

I know I'm straying from the topic, but you've brought these points up and the point of a forum is to debate!
