Curiously although I only had step kids for a short while mine preffered me to their own father and the older two to their first step father. Even though I was a good deal older than both of my predesscrs I was far more in touch with them. I guess my lack of parenthood practice was a factor as I didn't treat them as kids but more like yung adults.

Oh, I didn't demand their respect as these things have to earned, that didn't do me any harm either.
