In my computer
I'm partial to both operating systems myself....

When I did a bit of publishing and document preparation work I used a mac - graphics and software for image alteration and printing was excellent...

now I'm an accountant I use a PC - its not so fabulous but probably more functional than a Mac in terms of add ons for excel which link into our general ledger system....etc...

So I don't mind - we have a PC at home - purely because of our digital camera and many of the programs we use are windows or dos based...but if anyone ever offered me a cheap iMac I'd probably take it...

Macs are the Paul Brookers of the computer world; good to look at, plenty of entertainment but ultimately ineffective. PCs are the Charlie Oatways; simple, effective but a bit crap at the end of the day.

ive edited it for you Gwylan.

For sake of the argument, Macs *where* better than IBM-PC compatible (noone owns "PC") but they've lost the race lately and the newer Intel hardware will piss on the top spec Macs. They are still used alot in desgin studios etc because the sotware often only comes on Mac. But the real hardcore systems used in video/sfx work are now going over to Linux clusters.

I own an IBM, hence its a PC and not a PC cloner.

The real hardcore video (not porn...) gear has never, ever, ever been Mac. The terminals *might* be a mac but the machines that do the work are SGI.

Audio work is more suited to BeOS these days, particularly MIDI. Windows can do just as good a job with generally lower latencies too

Linux - argh.

TLO is correct - Mac's are great for design and creative work. So if you're a girly designer then use a mac.

Girly designers use pink macs, and call them 'choofy' or 'mimi'. Us award-winning hard bastard designers use blue or grey ones.

PCs are only good for making Bill Gates rich. And he does that by making their programmes and applications so full of holes that you have no choice but to buy the remedial software. You don't have that problems with macs - pink, blue or grey.

Programmers are wankers. :p

My PC has no software by Bill Gates on it - I built it myself and never bought Windows

My laptop came with 98SE but I sent it back to get the refund as the licence allows.

However, my Beige mac *does* have Microsoft software on it. Only machine that does.

well I use a PC with WinXP on it and it runs just fine, no major crash for over 12months, games runs smoothly (ok latest ones dont, need a new GPU) but overall I'm happy with it, MP3 ripping is fast, playback is great with my 5.1 setup and downloads are fast.

It works, I like it...thats all that matters to me

Phew, that's a relief! I can carry on preferring my girly Mac and happily leave the Kick Ass Computing to the chaps.

Check out Gateway's Profile 5 Series here (Click on product tour under the Profile 5 series)

Looks like Apple aren't quite as daring and original as you first thought?

Apple has only ever been considered original by the trendies that got into computing in the mid-late 90's. I remember the Amstrad PCW of the late 80's which had the technical gubbings inside the monitor case just like the "innovative" iMac of ten years later.

Err, the first *ever* Macintosh was an all-in-the-screen'er. In 1984

Apple have never *NOT* made an all in the screen unit. Even after the normal Macintosh'es went Desktop, the MacTV, the 5400, the G3 AIO have all been around

Also, the mac-all-inside-an-LCD was done in 1997, the Macintosh Cassius/Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh.

IIRC I believe IBM used to make an all-in-one unit called the netvista. I don't think they make it anymore.

Yep, they did.

Remember that a G1/2/3/5 (not G4) macintosh is basically a bad IBM machine internally - much of the motherboard and the CPU is IBM.
