There's not much that can be done with NSC's server in the very short term (ie today) so please stick with it as best you can.

It's really a decision of whether to pay £80 a month and accept there may be the odd occasion when things get swamped, like now.

Or look at spending 2 or 3 times that amount to get a shit hot server that will stay alive all the time, but most of the time will be running with a lot of redundant resources and hope advertising revenue comes in at a sufficient rate so as continue to cover hosting fees....

Bozz, this site is one of the main areas fans have been able to keep up with what's going on, organise themselves when protest/letterwriting/whatever necessary has been set up for the umpteenth time etc etc. It's acted as a fulcrum for many people's pro-Falmer activities and its contribution to us becoming the campaigning force we are is not to be underestimated.

You have NOTHING to apologise for mate. If we can't put up with the site having a few problems today of all days, we should find ourselves a quieter forum.

And huge thanks to Arthur who has managed to get onto the box whilst you've all been trying to kill it, and got it zipping along as it is right now with 400 or so users on board.

(Obviously I've tempted fate and it will now die horribly)

Yes and what a great week of entertainment it's given us leading up to today. Who needs TV soaps when we've had such a fantastic week of speculation, will he, won't he, is it today, is it tomorrow, death threats :D, etc. East Enders eat your heart out!

Are you sure no-one played with the database settings because it ran like a dog yesterday morning with only 50 or so users? The header loaded quickly, database accesses took up to a minute.

Anyway - the other services held up and the decision was announced before most people went to work so no harm done.

NSC has been one of the key elements in the whole campaign - without it, how the hell would we have got organised? Thanks due to many, many wonderful folks for delivering Falmer, but NSC also deserves a helluva lot of praise.

The Falmer day March 6th 2004 springs immediately to mind.

On NSC for over two decades...
I thought that the meltdown of NSC yesterday was kind of indicative of the slighty delerious state I was in most of yesterday.

Anyway NSP was up, so I got to play a game of "not accidentally stumbling across porn at work", which was fun.

Database wasn't touched yesterday, I changed the setting for that a week or so ago.

Yesterday I tweaked the webserver settings (but not until lunch time when I was able to get on to the box). As it proved to no avail as the box just couldn't take the strain. I kept an eye on the server load (when I could) and at their peak they were getting around the 500 mark which is very very high (just checked the load now and it's load average: 1.04, 0.97, 0.91).
