That we are probably not going to sign a striker. I recon Gus has and thats why he decided to play Vincente there last night, to try him out.

I'd almost go as far as to say that if CMS is staying we don't really need one. I keep reading comments from people like "WHEN the new striker arrives", and "who is the gem signing going to be" etc. I'd be quite happy to go into this season with the squad that we have at the moment.

CMS, Vincente, Barnes, Toby, Baker. All capable of playing up front, not to mention out quality wide men.

Won't be a disaster if we don't get one, but Gus is working on it and there will be another addition to the squad by the end of Aug - of that I'm sure

What about the story being touted by those in the know yesterday that we have an amazing loan backup lined up if we can't sign a striker on a contract?

Do we tell Chelsea we no longer need Lukaku ?? :)

... and Hoskins

Gus is pretty vocal in his desire to get someone and I think he will although his latest comments sort of suggest it may not be "the gem". Really hope he doesn't waste more time on Paynter/Vokes types

We definitely need a new striker and, ideally, before the start of the new campaign. Vicente is not going to manage a full season and Barnes and Toby are not going to manage on their own. I know it was only a friendly but worrying we looked very lightweight when Vicente went off last night after 60 mins.

Oops .. forgot Hoskins but still think we need that elusive powerful presence upfront.

Garbage. We def need a new forward as was painfully obvious numerous times last season.

Dont you think Vicente has been playing there because we have no other experienced options?

I will be AMAZED if we dont have a new one by the time the window closes.

With Crofts and Bridcutt in the middle it frees up Vicente to play behind CMS and get a lot closer to him than he could last year.

If we start the new season without a big strong striker up front with the ability to ruffle defenders a little, I think we will regret it. Hopefully, however, Gus will have the sorted soon.

think gus comments indicate that we are looking to sign a striker. We are lightweight in that area particularly with Hoskins and CMS injured presently. Would be very surprised if we left it until the end of the window and hope/expect someone in before Swindon and hull.

It is obvious that the main part of the budget has bee kept for the striker..we did not score enough last year, anyone who watched us regularly can see the need for a different kind od player and GP is continually referring to the need.

Hopefully we can get something sorted this week so he has time to settle in before next weeks big KO

We have left it very late but hopefully the waiting will be worthwhile.

I'd have thought that we have so many options in midfield now that he could put Barnes back up front for the time being.

True but we still need to address the matter of changing the scenario for differen games etc...we cannot just pass the ball into the goal, sometimes we need to mix it up...hopefully something will happen this week....

You know I was beginning to think the same thing. Playing Vicente just behind a lone striker seems to work well....

BUT... we are short of cover if we are going to play Dicker, Bridcutt AND Crofts at the same time

AND... there will be times when we will need two strikers... when teams play ultra defensive or are susceptible to high balls.

so I would suggest we still need a striker and a back-up midfielder to cover for Crofts at least (not Vincelot)

I was thinking about this during the game last night and was wondering where this 'big man' would fit in. It seems Gus is adopting a 4-3-3 approach with a midfield containing Bridcutt-Dicker-Crofts. I actually think this will work well with Bridcutt holding, Crofts surging forward and Dicker's passing (if he can sharpen-up from last season).

The front 3 seem inter-changable position-wise and I expect this would certainly include Vicente and CMS (if fit). Therefore if we include the 'big man' that would mean no Noone, Buckley or Lua-Lua in the starting line-up. I would not object to signing a more physical forward (so long as it is not on-loan), but for me he would be only thrown on if we are 1-0 down with 15minutes to go.

But personally I would prefer the front 3 of CMS, Vicente and one of either Noone, Buckley or Lua-Lua...And I believe CMS will benefit more from having Dicker & Crofts in the middle with Vicente closer to him than having a big man up alongside him.

Albion & England forever.

I'm not that fussed if we don't get a striker now. I think it would help, but only if we got someone properly decent. If we've missed out on all the good targets I'd rather we saved the money until a player worth having becomes available rather than wasting wages on average/shite players like vokes, lukaku, paynter or harley.
