Try getting a flight with Malev, the national airline, if you can get a good price. I went with them about 8 years ago and the meal was really good with plenty of good Hungarian red wine. Gets you in the right mood for your holiday. Course, it could have all changed now…………………….

The food on Malev is shite.

Budapest is a great city, wonderful bars and restuarants, try and venture off the beaten track and you will still find incredibly cheap and excellent places to eat and drink. Margaret island is lovely, you can sit by the huge fountain and listen to classical music very civilized although it may be out of season now.

For history, the place is steeped in it. the Museum of Terror is worth a visit detailing life under the Hungarian Nazi regime of Ferenc Szalasi and then the Communists. You may need a stiff drink after visiting the communist dungeons and torture chambers though. The castle and parliament are great too.

Oh and Hungarian girls are beautiful.

Not Luton! Thank God
A friend of a friend went on a stag do there a month back at the same time as Budapest Pride weekend. They dressed the stag up in orange gimp suit and went out on the town. What they hadn't figured on of course was the huge crowd of skinhead nazis protesting/looking for a fight against the homo-sexuals.

They then proceeded to get chased across the city and he was forced to hide in a kitchen and somehow lost one of his shoes in the process. He only escaped when someone went and bought some jeans and a tshirt for him to change into!

Agreed, I flew with them to Budapest a couple of weeks ago and all we got was the choice of a slightly stale cheese sandwich or a slightly stale ham sandwich.

It is a great city although I was surprised how quiet it was on the Saturday night, it might have been because it was the Hungary vs Sweden game which meant all the bars were full of swedish fans during the day but were pretty deserted in the evening.

You definitely have to go up Castle Hill and the Citadella, both give you great views of the city especially at dusk.

We had a week there and very enjoyable, even found a bar with Sky Sports so we watched Wednesday v Brighton when CKR equalised in the last minute.

Did mostly family things - Communist Statue Park, cave, Childrens Railway and the Zoo.

If you go to the Zoo in the park there is a great restaurant called "Robinsons".

Cheap as chips and easy to navigate by a very charming and old underground system

I particularly loved the Communist Statue Park! Wonderful to see all those old statues of Lenin, Marx, Bel Kun (Hungarian commie) et al consigned to the dusty outskirts of Budapest where people can view them with a mixture of fascination and derision.

Need of advice about Budapest? :)

Main places you must see:

Castle
House of Parliaments (within the Holy Crown)
Heroes Square
Citadella
Váci street - shopping centre (very expensive for Hungarians but maybe not for you)
Opera
House of Terror
A lots of churches and other museums
Zoo
etc.

If you have any question write me a private message and I help if I can.

Went to Budapest on my stag do - unfortunately I cannot remember a thing, except that a fantastic time was had by all.

I vaguely recall a few things of note:
- Unicum
- Ordering a revenge stitch up round of drinks for the group, knowing full well I had no money due my oufit (pink lady from Grease / pink hair / leggings / pink stilettos / 'viva la cock' boob tube), and then belatedly realising I had included myself in the round (d'oh) - this may have been in the roof top bar mentioned earlier.
- Vacating a bar sharpish, and being halfway down the road befoe realising we hadnt settled the tab (16 blokes - 1 afternoon of beer).
- The Tit-tanic.

You'll have a great time mate - I'm pretty sure my best man used Budapest stag | Budapest stag party | Budapest stag weekend . There may even be some photos of me on there somewhere (too scared to look).

I'm even planning to go back on a non-piss up basis. Really cool place.

Stout feller...

All good here mate - how's life with you? Bro OK?

As for the crack about getting everyone on the plane... my best man failed miserably at that one, leaving yours truly behind in London.

Now THAT is a long story...

Not so far - new house and growing family have slowed me down. Will give you a shout though.
