One of my mates went with some of his friends and was advised to stay around the main square and not to venture too far away.
After a few beers on their first night out they crossed the river and ventured off and ended up in a lap-dancing bar. They had a beer and were about to order another when one of the group overheard the cost of a round from another punter,so they then asked for their bill. The bill was £210 for four beers so they refused to settle up;within seconds the heavy mob surrounded them and they eventually paid up
Apart for that experience (which they were warned of) they loved it although they spend more than they should of.

I love Budapest and have been many times, only once on a stag though (my brothers), we also went into a club where there they tried to sting us for drinks, and they tried to lock us in, thank f*** my mate got a foot in the door.

Its a brilliant place, and if you are looking for a strip club, the safest place is a club called Marylins, its pay at the bar, so no nasty shock of a bill, the girls are first class, with a live sex show after midnight, and there are rooms out the back so you can have sex with them.

Apart from that, its a brilliant city, loads to see and do if you like culture, and, if you go at the right time, the grand prix is a must.

Not as cheap as it used to be.
If you do the trip down the river, get off and have a stroll around St Margarits Island, its lovely.
The food is lovely everywhere, don't believe that all they have is goulash.
Get a close up look at the houses of Parliament, its similar to the one in London (same architect)
Heroes square is quite good to see at is the cathedrial.
Try to go to some of the backstreet pubs, they are cheaper and better imho.

I lived there 5 years ago. Back in the day, some decent places to go were Becketts (Irish pub) and Banhhof nightclub (standard dance nightclub near the railway station). For something different you could go to the Szechenyi thermal baths which are near to the zoo (and Heroes Square).

You have to go a thermal bath - there aren't many better ways of getting rid of a hangover. The tourists normally got to Gellert but I like Szechenyi or Rudas

There is a cracking bar on the top of an old communist supermarket in the centre, the only way up is on the freight elevator to the top and the lift conductor gives you shots of beer on the way up, from the top you get some great views over Budapest, I'm afraid the name of the place escapes me though.

My mate went 2 months ago and we know Becketts well after doing the Grand Prix trip twice, apart from stopping the GP trips the place has hardly changed, good pub for a few beers. Budapest is a really enjoyable city although I've not done the shag night side, the girls were generally very pleasing on the eye.

Try the Cafe Gerbeaud at the end of Vaci utca on Vörösmarty tér for cake and coffee. A throwback to the days of Budapest`s cafe society and as already mentioned Széchenyi Spa is great.
Have a look at this restaurant if you fancy something different. Historic Budapest Restaurant

Try getting a flight with Malev, the national airline, if you can get a good price. I went with them about 8 years ago and the meal was really good with plenty of good Hungarian red wine. Gets you in the right mood for your holiday. Course, it could have all changed now…………………….

Becketts is a quality pub. Millwall smashed it up a few years ago, wankers.
