I think it's a far healthier situation if senior sports reporters aren't fans of the team they report on. I'm not saying this will guarantee objectivity but it doesn't half help.

How healthy was his relationship with MM then?

There's a fine line between maintaining good contacts and striking up an unhealthily close relationship with someone at a club. In this particular instance, it could be said that Mr Naylor crossed it. But it didn't do MM any great favour in the long run.

don't like the way he writes, seems to copy his stories from the official website or he is having a go at the club or DK. The match reports are pretty dire as well

Brian Owen is a far better football journalist than Naylor will ever be. The latter just seems to want to wind up and piss off the club and supporters all the time. A prime example of this is when he said a few years back that Cullip was injury prone!

Also, Naylor is one of reporters who thinks he knows the answers to all of the club's problems and spends time going on about it in match reports, when all we want to do is read about the game.

Naylor also tries to sensationalise trivial stories like sending first year pro's out on loan which happens at every league club(remember Jake Robinson at Aldershot, Dean Hammond at Orient?).

To me that's not being a good journalist, that's just being a tw*t!

All you antis are so f***ing precious. He tells it as he sees it, you don't have to agree but some of the commentsl about him on this thread are just plain pathetic. He's not the anti christ :nono:

Naylor is a poor journalist in a poor newspaper - (for those of a certain vintage) they never could replace John Vinnicombe who combined being a fan with being a good journo and actually reported on the match instead of trying to be cleverer than his talent allows

John Vinnicombe was a club apologist and not very good because of it, just imo like and was reguarly quite late out of hospitality, allegedly

Strange that so few people admit to reading the Argus but everyone seems to have an opinion of it.

If you're gonna talk about fair journalism then look no further than Andrew Hawes. I wasn't sure about him when he first began commentating on the Albion, but he has grown on me over the years and even when we beat Swindon, he still gave a fair commentary.

He doesn't try to stir things up and he comments purely on the facts rather than go phishing for bad news stories.

Now if Naylor took a leaf out of Hawesy's book, THEN he'd be a good journalist

Hawes didn't do the commentary on the Swindon game.
