I'd much prefer to see Man City struggle with all their new f***ing plastic fans. 2 seasons ago they couldn't fil that stadium, now they've got a bit of cash, everyone comes a flocking. f***ing pisses me off. Teams like this are slowly turning the Premiership into an absolute f***ing joke.

If that's a decline then I'll have some of that for us please.

They will win the Second Leg and beat Villa in the Final, despite an outrageous injury list are still very much in the title race and one of the favourites to win the Champions League.
I don't want to agree with this, but I'm afraid I do.

For a proper decline, see Liverpool. They really are f***ed - or they will be when Torres goes in the summer after Liverpool fail to make the Champions League.

Add to that his brap brap gun-toting celebration the week he launched an anti-gun campaign.

Oh and then criticising the England set-up for being a circus when he was the f***ing Ringmaster with his World Cup wind-ups bollocks

f***ing plank of the highest order.

Yup, spot on.

I was hoping you'd get a new joke book for Christmas. They're getting as one dimensional as Ronaldo's driving.

They used to be clear number one. Then they were a firm second. Now, they're second(ish) and soon to be the 4th/5th best side. Out of both domestic cups, not gonna win In Europe, manager who will go soon, not enough money for the really big signings, a no "over 26 year old" policy enforced from above, no youngsters coming through, disaffection amongst fans about pricing of tickets, Rooney on his way to Barcelona.......and the backbone of the squad ALL retiring in the next few years.

You know what that is?That's a decline.

do you really believe there is some sort of nirvana where fans go and watch their team come rain or shine, winning or losing, figting for promotion or trying to avoid relegation ? every single team in all four divisions has fair weather fans, note the phrase fair weather , as opposed to plastic, and it has always been thus, the same will happen if (hopefully) albion climb up the league and start to fill falmer, there is a thread on here where people are talking about the good old days of 20,000/30,000 crowds at the goldstone, well where are they now ? they will be back one day,and the club will be glad of them, but this topic has been done to death and i for one am sick of people bandwagon jumping with bitter rants about plastics, and to be honest, anyone who they see doing a little better than their own club.

Not for me. Whilst the monopolisation of the Prem by a few clubs has made it very dull, I liked the football Man United played until very recently (I hated them for the FA Cup final for years until Giggs et al came along). I'm older than some on here and I ought to be taking more enjoyment from the decline of Liverpool. As a kid we had Liverpool rammed down our throats at a time when there was very little football on telly. Their dull 'waiting game' was beyond criticism on TV. But I am not able to do so. I'm worried for English football and I see the decline of Liverpool and Man U as a sign of this. Then throw in West Ham, Portsmouth...the list goes on.

Our once great league (including those below the Prem) has been pillaged by the greedy, fools, profiteers and egotists and has been forced to its knees. West Ham owe £110m which they borrowed against future earnings for God's sake. We are witnessing a total melt-down out of which may well come a more even-handed and competitive league once again, but for now, I am not enjoying seeing Man United decline because a previously well run club (and it was - no matter what you think about the manager, players etc) has been ass-raped by Americans.

I don't think there is enough evidence for the decline to be terminal yet.

Also, much as I dislike United and especially the commercialism they represent, I don't like to see any club being screwed over by their owners. And if they do send the club into a downward spiral, it's the fans (I do know some genuine ones rather than the majority glory hunters) who suffer.

Finally, apologies for spoiling the gloat momentarily

All I can say to that is - GOOD.

Maybe now a team from outside the 'big' four can have a shot at winning the title. Ipswich finishing 3rd. Norwich in EUrope against Inter Milan. Aston Villa taking United to the wire.

Which would be brilliant - I agree. Esp in BHA were in the mix in a few years too - there may not have been a better time for us to get lucky by having Mr Bloom.

Blimey, I agree with Bushy. Clubs that rely on the hardcore fans are screwed. If we're only pulling in 6,000 fans at Falmer, we'll be screwed too. Not everyone can be a superfan, circumstances change. I used to go every home game and most away games when I was single; when I met Mrs G, that dropped to every home game and some away games; when I had kids that dropped to some home games - does that make me a fair weather fan?

And to be fair, I think Man City have rather few fair weather fans than most - they were still pulling in 30,000 in the 3rd division a few years back.

As for Man U, I can't gloat enough. I hope their financial problems mount, they're forced to sell the ground and drop down the league with Rio Ferdinand reduced to giving hand-jobs down Canal Street.

I completley agree with this. especially in regards to the man city fans, United on the other hand can just f*** off, as they just piss me off.

Look at the Albion this weekend, 6000 away! we rarely get that at home, whata bunch of f***ing plastics we are :shootself.

I am not really sure you can say this is the decline of Utd yet. They have a 50 50 chance of getting through to the Carling Cup Final. They are where they nearly always are in the league about this time of year ready for the post Xmas surge and are safely trough to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Still don't get me wrong I really hope it is. It really doesn't look too great on the pitch or on the balance sheet either.

I love the way the Guardian continually digs at Ferdinand as he 'struggles with his own PR vortex' e.g. supporting an anti-knife initiative then financially backing a gangsta movie, getting involved in some anti-homophobia thing then going on Chris Moyles show and suggesting he 'aint no faggot'.

I think thats a fine example of money certainly not buying you any intelligence or common sense. As the old saying goes it definetly does'nt buy you any class either judging by most premier league footballers houses and fashion sense.

I agree that he's thick as shit, but at least he's trying, i dont particularly like him either, but think he should be cut some slack on this.

I wouldn't necessarily have Rooney down as arrogant, he doesn't tend to be one of the players you see giving it large outside nightclubs, starting fights, demanding entry on the "do you know who I am?" basis. He seems to lead a relatively quiet life, the occasional OK! magazine spread notwithstanding.

On the pitch he can be argumentative and feisty- but we all love him for it when he plays for England. Talented, yes, volatile: definitely, but I don't think he's arrogant.

"Arrogant" for me applies to the kind of middle ranking, mediocre Premier League squad members who arse about on the pitch once or twice a week, before picking up their hideously inflated £80k per week wages, jumping into the Lamborghini and larging it up around unpleasant Essex nightlubs, picking up the local gold-diggers. At least Rooney has earned the right to be arrogant, unlike these wasters.
