A while ago I made a playlist on Spotify for every decade. My 80s one is huge and picking 5 off it was almost impossible. If I had to then:

Town Called Malice - The Jam
Absolute - Scritti Politti
Acid Trax - Phuture
WFL - Happy Mondays
Geno - Dexys

Ashes to Ashes
Ace of Spades
Just Who is the 5 O'clock Hero? (Or a Town Called Malice if you don't count Hero as a UK single)

May well not have been a UK single, but I bought my copy in a UK branch of Our Price, played it til it was unplayable in my UK house and watched It get to Number 8 (I stand to be corrected on that one) on a UK version of Top Of The Pops, so I'm sure we'll let you have that one, and congratulate you on your choice

I wouldn't listen to that - it's gonna put you in a trance. My 80s track of the day today is No Way Back by Adonis.

Such an important piece of music. Not many records have changed my life but that really did. Anyway I've now slapped on the Spotify list and done the first five songs, none of which were on the list, so my selection has changed to the first five

Spasticus Austiticus - Ian Dury
This Charming Man - The Smiths
This is The Day - The The (was this a single? Don't care, I'm already cheating)
Teardrop Explodes - Reward
I am the Resurrection - Stone Roses

I find the acid noise in any acid track bizarrely fascinating - the way it morphs from almost inaudible to squelchy over a period of 30 seconds. I love listening to that noise and its busy, industrial qualities - like watching a procession of ants at work.

The Flirts - Passion
Silver Pozzoli - Dream Around
Billy Idol - Eyes Without A Face
Laura Branigan - Self Control
Associates - Party Fears Two

But could have added so many more. Possibly typical for most, adoring their music from their late teens/early twenties?

What a tune, and what a voice

Yep, we had Radio2 a few weeks back during some car journey, and they played it in its entirety, every brilliant second. Surprisingly for Steve Wright on music not of his liking, he didn't interrupt once or cut it short!

Adored it in the early 1980's and bought the 12" single, and remember it on TOTP. Youtube is great for reliving it.
