Quite possibly but not necessarily. It’s conceivable they give up the chase and just dig in. As it stands they need just under 3 runs per over. That’s ahead of the scoring rates in the first 3 days.

I still think England have more than enough time though.

Our other fit spinner Parkinson was smashed out of the attack in a warm up game. I think they went with Bess primarily to hold up an end, allowing our other seamers to rotate. Bearing in mind Stokes is injury prone and Anderson is 37 and just returning it was probably a sensible decision.

A leg spinning debutant may have forced our pace bowlers to bowl too long a spells on what is a decent batting surface.
