I was in my local record store earlier when I noticed they were doing a 90's 'u.k rock' special promotion. Obviously there were a lot of great albums on display but I noticed that a lot seemed to come from 1994 which got me thinking, has there been a better year for albums than 1994? Not just for the u.k, but generally, too.

Some of the top class releases that year were:

Oasis - definintely maybe
Blur - Parklife
Nirvana - unplugged in new york
Manics - The Holy Bible
Jeff Buckley - Grace
The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted generation
Portishead - Dummy
Greenday - Dookie
Hole - Live through this
Beastie Boys- Ill communication

There are almost certainly more quality albums releasewd that year that I can't remember. So, was 1994 the greatest year for albums or was there another(or many other) year(s) that was better?

Over to you music lovers.

it's a damn good album!

I was listening to it earlier today.

1969

Led Zeppelin I and II
Beatles - Abbey Road
The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
The Who - Tommy
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King: An Observation by King Crimson
MC5 - Kick out the Jams

Impressive...but only seven albums. Does 1969 have the strength in depth of 77, 91 and 94?

Plus

The Stooges - The Stooges ("It's 1969, OK, all across the USA")
Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention - Uncle Meat and Hot Rats
Sly and the Family Stone - Stand!
Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline (not my cup of tea but well regarded)
...and two that are decidedly my cup of tea
Can - Monster Movie
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica (IMHO, the best rock album of all time)

Ah, Wire. Criminally under-rated art-school punks. '1-2, XU'!

Have got (and still play) all their albums.
