That depends on how long the repair will last. If it's a short while, then no. Even if it's a long while (and it's an old, inefficient unit), the savings from an apparently economic repair could be gobbled up by the higher running cost.

Does it normally turn off when you turn the temperature dial to zero? If so, try and coax it back on by quickly 'flicking' the dial from 'off' to any 'on' setting. If you do this so slowly that the switch makes no noise, then this technique will not work. What is the temperature of the room?
