Not really one to sing along to though is it? Although remembering the lyrics may be less of a challenge...

Right Here, Right Now

Seems like the people who need the words on screen to join in are not worthy of sympathy, empathy or whatever. only mocking. Whereas the ones who don't, can carry on as normal. Except they didn't on Sunday, which was the most pathetic rendering of GOSBTS I have ever heard, with fans only really singing the final chorus. Hardly anybody sang around me like they normally do, just a bit of gentle mouthing or nothing at all. it was a big fail on Sunday.
Cue more laughing emojis at the excluded ones. Oh, and much blustering that it was the best ever.

Like the OP I guess we are of a similar age, 60+, and remembering words is difficult.
So on Sunday , without the words on screen , I bluffed my way through GOSBTS.
I thought I did really well, but I still don't know why, but I got some odd looks from my fellow West Stand Uppers when I sang with gusto about "Bugling our marching gay boys"

Because the words werent on the screen they didnt sing? I take it they don't join in with any other chants in that case.

I’m well into my 80’s and know all the words.

What about all the other songs Albion fans sing? Can you not remember the words to those either?

Not a dig, genuinely interested.

(It absolutely was one of the best GOSBTS on Sunday for a long time where I was)

The fact is that GOSBTS was as good as it's ever been yesterday, with no words. If people really can't remember the words but are desperate to sing them, then it's not difficult to Google them and have them in front of them. I imagine we are talking about a tiny, tiny minority of people here.
The Forest game was nowhere near one of the best examples.

From where i was in the ground (wsu) GOSBTS was fairly quiet imo & definitely quieter than usual, and you could hear the Forest fans singing loudly throughout it - the first time that i have ever heard opposition fans singing during it.

Depending on where you are in the ground, this will be a recurrent issue with the new timing. Most teams have an anthem or favourite chant that they will now sing loudly during SBTS.

In the North end of the stadium you'll hear SBTS, towards the middle/South then the away fans wiĺl be louder.... UNLESS we have 20K+ Albion fans actually singing loudly like other clubs do their anthems.

I've had the same seat since the AMEX 1st opened, and as i said, that was the first time i've heard the away fans singing as GOSBTS played, so either GOSBTS was quieter than usual, or the away fans a lot noisier during it than normal to make it so they could be heard from where i sit.

Surely anyone can just sing 'la la la la la la la' instead on 'now is the time for marching'? if they don't know the words, and wait for the chorus. If you don't know that words of the chorus to 'Good Old Sussex By The Sea' then your in trouble.

On a serious note, I have sung a couple of incorrect variants of the song over the years and have adjusted to the correct wording since we moved to the Amex. I DO have sympathy for anyone who is incapable of remembering the words to songs, is there a specific name for that?

there's always the 'Albion' song, the words for that one are simpler (sorry, that doesn't sound particularly sympathetic, I'm such a hypocrite!).

To be honest, from my position in West Lower, South, I hear very little in the way of songs or chants at all. A lot from the away fans though. It's just the acoustics. Just the occasional swell of Al be ern, Al be ern is it. I can manage that.
