We’ll have him for free next summer instead.

We still need a top quality left footed CB for this season, as Igor isn't good enough.

Perhaps a late move for Facundo Medina, a player we've already been linked with.

This one isn't happening I think. Boscagli is not happy about it but it seems we've dragged this on too long for PSV's liking and they don't have many defenders.

There is always January. PSV are neither rich enough or principled enough to make him see out his contract and then leave on a free.

In my five years of following Brighton, the club has never been able to find a good left footed CB (BDB was already around, Colwill only a loan) to sign.

Everyone wants one (preferably two) and there's very few around.

Medina won't come, he just signed a new contract. As for the Boscagli guy, I think the reasoning goes "rather him than Igor", but its not a priority signing that we'll spend big money on.

Quite likely the final outcome is that we won't sign a new LCB and just keep Igor around until January at least.

Really is just a stand-in gig anyway. Our future on the LCB position is Levi Colwill.

If Boscagli is not happy, he is not going to sign a new contract and they are going to miss out on a €10m pay day. If Boscagli is not happy, it’s not going to do the PSV squad any good. They won’t let this happen. They’ll have a number of incoming centre back options negotiated and ready to go tomorrow.

We’ll squeeze and squeeze them. There will be more rhetoric around how he can’t possibly leave. Then PSV will cave in. They’ll sign a top left footed CB from another Dutch side, perhaps take Igor on and loan and will take our valuation.

This is what normally happens with most clubs when a player is getting to the end of their contract. We’ve been in the same situation selling Trossard and Bissouma at lower than market values due to contract expiration. TB had learned his lesson from the Ashely Barnes debacle where it had got to January and we lost a few Millions on him (a huge amount at the time). PSV will stand down tomorrow at some point I predict.

This has had ‘last day of the window’ written all over it since the rumours began. Nothing has changed. It makes tomorrow more exciting.

Is it principles, or is it just cold hard business?

I take the point they are short of defenders. But they are basically saying to this lad we’ll pay you £10m for what you do this season. That’s £200,000 per week in addition to what they are paying him.

I don’t buy it. I reckon they are playing brinkmanship.

I think a loan of Igor to them to facilitate the deal makes 100% sense. Of course, Igor would have to agree to that as well!

Yup... and don't think he'd mind it.

PSV have a very good reputation in Brazil, as its the club where players like Ronaldo and Romario and a bunch of other Brazilians started their European careers.

This "trade" can't be ruled out.

I get that from the point of "Chelsea will have to find sales of pure profit players" view.

But would we be in pole position? Whatever their PSR issues, they would be able to demand big money for that player, bigger than we've ever paid.

The foreign Chelsea fan outrage would be wonderful, but I think more likely our centre back future is Dunk and Van Hecke for at least a couple more years

Id have liked to see us try and buy Murillo from Forest. Left footed and is already a very, very good player. Would be big money though and i think we have spent more than enough this window already. Id have invested in him instead of one of the many midfielders/wingers/forwards though. Im delighted with all of our signings but i think a decent left footed centre half should have been a prioity

I hope you're right. It makes sense and that's the normal way it's done but my experience with Dutch football suggests that players often do this then sign a contract a month or two later.

This post had me thinking...lets just Swap Evan for Levi. We know Evan is good but how good?? We KNOW Levi is VERY GOOD! it's a position that we need filling and ASAP as Dunky is also not going to be around for ever! Chelsea need a 9 right now... NOT THAT I REALLY WANT TO HELP THEM!

Let's see if the "there were other Brazilians there when I was 3" factor gains any traction.

It might be hard to disentangle that from the lure of being paid PL money while having a decent likelihood of game time, winning domestic trophies and getting Europa games next season

Yeah I think he knows Tony loves him... its the perfect Brighton player.

Right now they would look too silly if they sold him, but reality will hit them like a truck eventually.

As for the money, it would certainly be a new record signing.

Van Hecke is super-omega-gone in a year if he keeps playing like against Manchester United. We're progressing nicely but not nicely enough to hold on to world class players for any prolonged time. Imo Van Hecke is becoming way too good not to play in a top, top team soon. Sadly.

Well, its not only when he was 3.

They had André Ramalho in defense until this summer, other Brazilian defenders like Alcides and Alex turned into Brazilian internationals during their time in PSV. They have a good reputation in Brazil and that might matter a lot when trying to ship this lad to the effing Eredivisie.

You won’t think that after Evan hits a brace against Wolves 😉

Levi Colwell is now on Chelsea wages. That rules him out for us, no matter how much we liked him and he liked us.

And if they decide to sell him there will be more attractive clubs than us willing to pay. Liverpool wanted him last Summer.

Can wee Colwill still being a target for Liverpool as a long term successor to VVD

Levi Colwell is now on Chelsea wages. That rules him out for us, no matter how much we liked him and he liked us.

Apparently, despite their obvious shortcomings, the new Chelsea owners have sensibly limited weekly salaries, to new players, to around £70k.

So we are now in a position to compete with them on that front.
