Of his attacking qualities, I have no doubt. I am still a little underwhelmed regarding his defensive duties and think he will be (has been) easily muscled off the ball (less so Hinshelwood or Purvis). I think this is a smart move and he will return so much the better for it next season, an example being Moises, White and others.

I can only imagine that the Albion fans who are convinced he was ready to play in the Premier League were not at Bournemouth in April. The lad just cannot defend at all. He has no idea where to position himself, and most especially he is a complete liability as soon as the ball is in the air - every aerial challenge he either bottles it or commits a foul.

Huge potential, but absolutely not ready yet. He needs lots of games, that he’d not get here.

Personally I think a loan to the top of the Championship would have been better for his development- but at the end of the day, the player has to agree to the loan!

Tend to agree about the Championship. Did we try for a Championship loan, I wonder? Don't think it would have/should have been up to him to turn it down, if we had had one lined up.

I am surprised by the loan but I can see why we would do it. Sevilla are always pretty astute defensively, great place to learn how to defend and test your technical ability.

Probably, especially if (as seen many times before - White, Sanchez, Sarmiento, Mitoma, Caicedo, etc etc) the loan prepares them for the first team squad.

Conversely perhaps they could look at Enciso, Minteh, Joao Pedro, seemingly Gruda and see that it's done case by case.

Hinshelwood and Ferguson too if we're counting our own academy graduates.

A little harsh, the games after that he was definitely getting stronger, also looked good in preseason….. in all honesty I was more concerned with Veltman, who is getting slower….

Championship would have been a good call.

I was a bit concerned about this loan, but I have only seen him at he Amex; I have not really seen his defensive frailties myself. So with observations such as yours, I guess it will shape him up for the future. It makes me feel better about this.

Don't hold your breath on Gruda.... he may still be loan fodder.
