This 4 minute NBC report is quite illuminating:

It says the Ukrainian drone attack was the largest of the war so far.
There is a suggestion that the goal for the advance is to create a buffer zone to prevent Russia launching attacks on Ukraine.
Germany have identified a Ukrainian suspect in the Nordstream gas pipeline sabotage.

The sad thing is that he cares so much more about the tiny bit under Ukrainian control than the 500k odd killed.

Probably misinformation to keep Russia on edge and uncertain. Ukraine would probably like to be rid of the annoyance of having it so close and would love the huge stockpile of ammo there....but you never know now that Ukraine has shown the world how weak Russia is.

Exactly this, same reason Lukashenko moved tanks to Ukraine border, its bluff designed to tie down defensive troops and equipment forced to defend, just in case
