I had the joy of tiling a windowless bathroom, with no internet signal. So watched the match after dinner on Japanese Amazon Prime. Lovely, especially Barco.
And to the tune of the Jackson 5 hit:
A D C, It's easy as
1 2 3, as simple as
do re mi, A D C, 1 2 3
That's how easy goals can be!
It’s ACD, good otherwise

U21 players don't have to be registered to play.

This means we can play Barco, Baleba, Hinshelwood, Yalcouye, Ayari, Enciso, Buonanotte, Moran, Osman, Mazilu, Cozier-Duberry and Ferguson without registering them.
I really hope this is correct and if so thats bloody magnificent planning! May not have to loan March out after all then! How old is Minteh?

Agree. Barco was on the cusp of contributing to the Goals For tally at the tail end of last season. Two completely different players. How do you accommodate them both? Might be the proverbial nice problem to have, but a full-on quandary IRL nonetheless

*edit* IMHO Barco edges it for me on account of scope for kicking on and developing into something really special
One set up could be to rotate Igor and play Pervis as a LCB in a back 3 and Barco as a LFB/Lateral MF (with Hinsch on the right) and Wieffer/Baleba as the CDM pivot with either dropping back into CB.

That might resolve the issue of Pervis still being off the pace as a LFB (which we need more than ever in FH’s system that relies on very fast wide players in every third of the pitch)

The only limitation we have as a Club is paying all the wages of so many young players otherwise the current squad size of so much talent can only benefit us.

Will that not get a bit crowded on the left assuming Mitoma is in there,... unless you are asking Barco to shift infield slightly.... and what would happen to Enciso/Gilmour who have also drifted to the flanks with linking play in the past?

The dull part of the south coast
We have a huge number of players and with so many of returning loan players in Japan I wonder if what upset DeZerbi was that he was told he had to give many of these an opportunity this season.
I would imagine DeZerbi was told to make do with the players he had and wait until the end of the season for a reset. Like Gus Poyet, maybe he had ideas above his station and would not accept the club’s strategy on player recruitment hence his moody demeanour in the last few months of the season. Water under the bridge now.

Well no, it would harmful in most ways imaginable. Don't want nearly 40 players in training or keeping 20+ players happy despite barely getting game time. Also want young players to get enough game time. There will be A LOT of outgoings and it doesn't have much to do with money.

Have we got any tacticians out there? What did we do differently?

I can see pace, speed of build up, longish balls through the middle, willingness to take a chance etc. Did anyone see what else we did?
I am very far from an expert but to me the system seemed to be a fluid 4-4-2 with 2 central defenders 2 wingbacks 2 wingers 2 midfielders and 2 up top.

In the first half CD Van Hecke & Baleba WB Lamptey & Samuels W Minteh & Mitoma M Milner & Moran UT Osman & Welbeck

In second half CD Weir & Veltman WB Offiah & Barco W Cozier-Duberry & Adingra M Buanonotte & Ayari UT Sarmiento & Sima

The fluidity came from the wingbacks pushing up to the halfway line when our keeper/ central defenders had the ball and then either of the 2 CD (or a midfielder dropping back) passing quickly to whoever was in space. The WB and W had good interplay with the WB quite often being ahead of the W and taking the ball into the opposition penalty area.
The passing and movement were exciting to watch especially at the start of the second half when we had all new outfield players against what was i am guessing some of their reserves (I believe they brought on about 6 new players)

I took a look at the NHK sports pages, and from my nonexistent Japanese it would appear that they are more concerned with:

  • the progress of the Japanese football teams at the Olympics
  • general football at the Olympics
  • general stuff at the Olympics
  • various happenings in rugger
  • seismic events in the world of Sumo
  • rounders Baseball news
  • people sitting around presumably discussing something to do with sport
So not much, really.
What I thought, so a small ripple at best
