A couple of my mates ( Brighton fans ) always took the piss out of my love of cricket, well last 100 season went to see the Southern brave and loved it so much they started watching them home and away ! They are really looking forward to it…..so my view on it has changed a bit and if it get 1000s of new fans and 5% of those go on to explore longer forms of the game it will be worth it.

Why did they finally go and watch a game of cricket? Free tickets, it publicised or on the BBC? All these things could have been done far cheaper without the 100.

Between today and August 29th there is just one Sussex men's team game on a weekday being played in Sussex. Wednesday 14th August v Essex, 1 day cup game.

Put another way, before Thursday August 29th, the school summer holiday provides the opportunity to attend about 6 or 7 hours of Sussex men's cricket in Sussex.

Saw it on the telly I think.

Also one of them has a youngster and I think it was free for kids ?

But it got them watching cricket and hopefully they will grow to love the longer game ?

All kicks off again this Tuesday with what looks a really entertaining fixture between Birmingham Phoenix and the men's reigning champions Oval Invincibles. With our very own Southern Brave beginning on Wednesday with what looks a very winnable home fixture against London Spirit.

Come on the Brave!!

:O
You can take your Hundred, your Welsh Wotsits and your Southern Skips, and crisply drive it through the gap between your left and right buttock all the way to the boundary at Colon End, where your cricketing brains sit.

Are Southern Wotsits still, 'endlessly curious with an insatiable appetite for adventure'?

Not that I give a shit.

But the fact I remember some of their motto is at least testimony to the power of excruciatingly naff marketing.

I'd suggest it would have the opposite effect really.

Like most sports, the game is financially driven more than ever before. And is slowly ceasing to be cricket. There are 15ish T20 international leagues now- among those will be some I don't even know about. But what folk forget is that these leagues will flush a small group of players.

Nothing can be done about it. It's over. Ten to fifteen years and the game as we know it is gone. They say The Hundred attracts people who don't usually go. But I think that they still won't go- except to this freak show. Not only that, the host counties will get wealthier and Sussex etc become the 'deserving poor'. Surrey made £5m or so in their last accounts. With The Hundred sales that will only rise. Middlesex (often falsely believed to be one of the 'big counties') are being forced away at times from Lords because of scheduling issues. Sad times.

The thing is, it’s not really for us cricket lovers, it’s like trying to watch old pros playing beach soccer it’s also not for football lovers, it’s just quick entertaining eye candy.
And remember how massive beach soccer became and all the new fans that brought to football. Let's hope the Hundred can emulate the excitement of John Scales playing on Brighton beach

As a cricket fan, I quite enjoy The Hundred.

I said what I said.

Ssssssh you're not allowed to say the Hundred is anything other than the devil himself on here.

Going to watch Southern Brave v Manchester on 1 August. The double headers with the women's games are great value IMO.

Been like that for some time and the reason I cancelled my membership.
