I'm not sure that the instruction would've been to belt it so hard that even the Spanish keeper would've struggled to stop it going dead. A long chip into the channels to for someone like Saka or Watkins to chase or the simple ball to Shaw would've still been a non-risky options; this was just a poor bit of football that looked completely out of place in a major international final.

This also confirms something I have thought for a long time, Pep Guardiola is ruining football.

Where once the game was about flair, individual brilliance and creating moments, it's now all about intricate patterns, possession at all costs and x-f***ing-G. You only need to look at how Guardiola has taken Jack Grealish, an undoubted flair player who could do things on his own, and turned him into a shadow of his former self who plays a safe pass rather than take on and beat a man. He's ruined a supreme talent. Who knows how many others he's ruined?

I really don’t agree with this. How is one team ruining football?

As for Grealish, I’ve always felt he’s a one trick pony/ flat track bully. Easy to turn on the style against Championship and most EPL teams ….but seemingly cannot do it regularly at the truly elite level. He’s moved to a level which is slightly too high for him.

Whilst I am strongly against Man City's funding sources and apparent strategy of buying the best players off other PL teams to sit on their bench, it cannot be denied that they play beautiful football.

What's wrong with striving to make chances and xG anyway? Couple a good xG with a half-decent striker and it's happy days.

Yep, that was a moment, a slumped back in my chair and thought the momentum was thrown away.

Cucurella said in an interview in Spain, the whole team was given a lift before kick off because they saw Palmer on the bench, he is the one player at Chelsea during training that he hates being paired against, because he has such a good football brain, and the Spanish team feared him.
Yamal was good enough to be trusted by the Spanish manager, Southgate bottled it.

Personally I think Guardiola is the best thing that's happened to football and the greatest coach/manager of all time.

We said exactly the same. We’d scored, the noise from the English crowd was much louder, we were pinging it around and looked full of energy…………the momentum had evidently shifted. Within minutes it was gone though, a tale of two teams/tactics. The Spanish wrestled back control pretty quickly because we played right into their hands.
