I'll post this publicly, rather than send PMs, and will keep it brief.

Actually no. I've changed my mind. I don't have the words to express how frustrating, and difficult it is for me personally, to witness the distress, exasperation, annoyance, boredom and more distress that arises when . . . . people try to engage on anonymous forum and....it turns into a car crash for (from where I am sitting) no apparent reason. And rinse and repeat.

As long as everyone comes out of it intact, great. But sadly I am going to have to reactivate the ignore function again because I find it distressing. I will take another peek in a few weeks, because I realize I'm depriving myself of some smart and insightful engagement

That's not fair, or accurate in my opinion, and quite imflammatory to the poster.

I enjoy reading your posts and opinions most of the time, and I generally agree with a lot of it, but let's not forget that you also jumped on me and my posts out of nowhere only a week or so ago, resulting in a tit-for-tat between us, for no good reason.

Not wishing or attempting to stir the pot at all, but I thought it was worth pointing that out, and hoping for a balanced and polite debate/discourse, remembering that this topic in general can be quite sensitive for people all over the world.
Er, you responded to a perfectly polite and reasonable post with a rude dismissive gif because you thought my comments were irrelevant - you then doubled down on your rudeness and accused me of speaking “waffle” when I tried to highlight the relevance of my comments fyi. You gave as good as you believe you got. So let’s not embark on a revisionist history here. I don’t respond to rudeness. I will admit to that 🤷‍♂️ I appreciate debating with reasonably intelligent and rational people (minus any hyperbole and excessive emotionalism) who understand that not every discussion or POV has to be dumbed down and turned into reductive, polarising arguments and not every disagreement is someone getting upset or overly sensitive - it’s just disagreement.

I bore you no animosity, I wasn’t particularly bothered about it and had completely put it behind me until you felt the need to bring it up again tonight and accused me of jumping on you 🙄

Exactly proving the point I just made.

I’m waiting for a call back from a friend who’s just called 111 for his daughter so I’ll go to bed when I want to if that’s ok with you 👍

Putting you back on ignore too now. Ah that feels good 😂

Ignore is probably for the best if things are taken too personally or sensitively.

I’ve also caught 3 of your edits today, being vastly rude to fellow posters, including myself (“twat”), before you have realized you may have crossed the line.

Meanwhile - getting this thread back on track

Biden, hoping to reclaim the narrative in this campaign, is launching an awareness drive of Trump’s Project 25 - the far right manifesto that threatens to unravel key institutions and federal agencies, centralising the power in the Executive/President

While the group behind Project 25 launch a conspiracy theory that Biden will hold onto power by force (exactly what the left has expressed about Trump but with far more justification

If what the world needs now is Michelle Obama then we’re all truly f*cked.
Does the World need Trump?

Surely you can suggest a Republican with less baggage or undesirable attributes? 😉

I've been ridiculed for being left of centre by a number of the repitious posters who now control the forum.

Rather like in our own country, if populations are only prepared to vote for warmongers then it can have the effect of crushing the hope of others who don't subscribe. It's evident that's how both mainstream parties like to keep it, with huge resources, backing and media propaganda, whether here or the US.

None of the four predictive voting options given on this thread would appeal to me if living in the States and I doubt too much consideration will be given to other candidates in the US either.

Biden looked "old" when he was 29..
Watching this clip makes his decline even more evident....

Biden was a superb politician. Even 10 years ago. But it's just too much for him now.

Is this the old 'Donald Trump 2024' thread? If that thread has gone - do we still post stuff that is specific to Trump rather than the US election here?

(although I guess most stuff relates in a way to the election - but this isn't really about Biden!)

Yes, this thread is the original Trump 2024 thread I started in 2022 - the mods just changed the title a few months ago to reflect we have now actually moved into the Election campaign - so anything Trump/Biden/US Election is relavant especially Trump’s Court cases which impact on his election campaign.. I was going to post this myself here later so thanks but it‘s quite shocking.

A bit of background if anyone is interested but jump to TLDR if not:

The Judge in this case, is a Republican appointed Judge so that is worth bearing in mind first. Secondly, the grounds for dismissal stems from the Republican’s objections to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller in 2017 and objections prior to that. The question of the constitutionality of Special Counsel has been a political football ever since.

Under Trump’s Presidency in 2019, the Republican’s argued that the AG appointment of Special Counsels were unlawful ( they can only be appointed by the President not the AG) - Special Counsel/Prosecutors date back to Watergate and ironically Nixon asking his AG to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate corruption - under Carter, the Ethics in Government Act was enacted which formalised the appointment of Special Counsels by the Attorney General - the Justice Department contested the EGA saying it was unconstitutional. The constitutionality of Special Counsels was affirmed by SCOTUS in 1988. Justice Scalia a very conservative member of the Court, dissented strongly arguing that the President alone should have the right to appoint Special Counsel. The Republicans filibustered a renewal of the EGA and it expired in 1992 but they later supported it’s reinstitution because they wanted Clinton investigated in the Whitewater case. Clinton reenacted the Act (for optics) but it again expired in 1999.

Biden’s AG, Merrick Garland appointed Smith in 2022 to investigate Trump’s overturning of the 2020 election and also the documents case… In the recent immunity case heared by SCOTUS, Justice Clarence Thomas the farthest right wing Justice on the Court, questioned the appointment of Special Counsels. Relying on some if the comments by Justice Clarence, Judge Canon said the mere existence of Special Counsel Jack Smith violates the Constitution so she dismissed the case.

TL;DR
The good news, since the Supreme Court ruled on the constitutionality of Special Counsel in 1988, it is likely Judge Cannon‘s decision will be overturned on Appeal. However it helps Trump’s campaign and it will be unlikely resolved on appeal by November - it also could effect other cases and decisions made where a Special Counsel has been appointed, including Jack Smith’s prosecution of Trump into the attempts to overturn the 2020 Election.

Sen JD Vance who blamed Trump’s assassination attempt on Biden yesterday has been chose by Trump to be his Vice President running mate.

Judge Loose Cannon has thrown out the classified documents case because she's decided special counsels are unconstitutional, despite all the previous cases involving special counsels. The appeal will go to the 11th circuit and I would think she will be removed from the case.
