I was at the receiving end myself of some quite intimidating behaviour from the far left in Blair’s time, when I stood as a Labour Party Councillor many years ago but not once did I feel physically threatened. An ex-Ukip Councillor in my Constituency has been arrested for intimidating behaviour several times over the past few years and thrown off the Council as a result but he’s a shlte anyway - UKIP was his platform for being a shlte..

If the guy was a Labour Party voter, his behaviour certainly wouldn’t be condoned by the local Labour Party at any level. Some people are aggressive and violent, or just fcuked up - seems like political or moral outrage is just a vehicle for some people to exercise their warped psyches.

Absolutely, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, that is what Tom has rightly done. I guess the only way we'll know for sure is if the motive and identity of the attacker is disclosed. It could well be one of the GTTO brigade - there are plenty of those on 'X' that are extremely unpleasant and tend to have a red rose in their profile info - but not necessarily a member of any political party. I didn't feel able to vote Labour the last couple of elections because of Corbyn and because of the toxic state of Labour locally. I now feel I can vote for Labour. My comments were just my thoughts/opinion. And I wouldn't die in a ditch over that opinion...

To be fair, the wrong'un element of the left have recently been putting more effort into vandalising Labour MP's offices so I can see why you would be confused about the target. Maybe they now branching out into violence against ALL people they disagree with, rather than just their own side who aren't "left" enough.

I don’t know the OP and suspect I don’t agree with his political views, I’m just angry at seeing a dickhead (the perpetrator) do this because regardless of mine or anyone’s views, I love democracy and our right to free speech.

In my constituency at the moment there is stuff going on between Tory and Lib-Dem about who is “local” and who is lying most about it. It’s quite pathetic, as it doesn’t stop either of them being good candidates.

Difficult to know isn't it?

Normally parties implode into partisan infighting after going into opposition, not several years before.

We'll have to see if they've gone through their "let's get more extreme and ridiculous" phase while in government and will be prompted out of it by a massive defeat, or if they still have to go through that after actually losing. It took them a good few years last time they went into opposition.

I agree with that. I have this view that politicians should really just be boring people that want to do the best job possible with the cards they are dealt with. I'm not interested in personalities - like BJ (there are plenty of others). Personalities seem to be in it just for themselves, their own egos. And when you get a number of egos competing, things get toxic. That's not good for the country as a whole... as has been proved recently.

What do you mean “more assumptions”? I thought I was perfectly clearly putting across the idea that we don’t know - or at least I don’t know - what the motive for the attack was. I do not jump to conclusions about things like this.

I’m not AGAINST them vanishing into the abyss

It’s two issues really, 1) who would replace them, and at the moment it’s Reform which terrifies me and 2) it certainly isn’t going to be a brand new party of moderates taking the vote. It’s going to be the opposite
