I only know Great Big Sea... but then again, I haven't really kept up with contemporary music since roughly 1995.😄

To me, Great Big Sea are Figgy Duff v2!

He's a young un, then, and probably wondering what a 'lava tree' has to do with chopping wood!

Weirdly no, 49. I just assumed that Canadians from Quebec don't understand British humour.

This is the "Hey Jude" of Joni's oeuvre, along with "Both Sides Now". I prefer her jazz period, 1975-80, supported by Metheny and Pastorius (!!!), but Blue, Hissing of Summer Lawns and Court and Spark are fantastic transitional albums.

.

Or the Hi Ho Silver Lining of Jeff Beck (he hugely regretted it from day one). I am aware that she’s an icon with Baez, Dylan etc.

True -- even fully bilingual, native French-speaking Montrealers probably wouldn't have heard of Monty Python. I grew up in Eastern Ontario in the 70s and 80s, immersed in 5 cultures -- Québécois, French Parisian, English Canadian, American and British. In those days, that meant TV, movies and popular music.
