How many are now dead?

I gave the newspaper image to ChatGPT and forced it to find out. Took a bit of "stop being shit, and tell me who's dead" before we got anywhere. And I haven't fact checked it so they may or may not be more or less alive than they appear.
  • Division 1: John Hollins, John Sillett, Arthur Cox, Brian Clough, Jim Smith, John Lyall.
  • Division 2: Graham Taylor, John Duncan, Billy Bremner, John Docherty, Ian Porterfield, Ron Saunders.
  • Division 3: Frank Burrows, Harry McNally, Kevin Randall, Ian Greaves, Noel Cantwell, John McGrath, Billy McEwan.
  • Division 4: Chris Turner, Frank Burrows, Colin Appleton, Billy Ayre, Ian Greaves, Noel Cantwell, Colin Murphy, Cyril Knowles, Frank Worthington.

Yeah the whole conversation was a bit wonky:

Du sade:

Hi, how many of these managers are dead?

ChatGPT sade:

I can now see the image featuring the league managers from the 1987-88 season. To determine how many of these managers are no longer alive, I'll need to cross-reference each name with available historical data.
Here are the managers in the image:
  • Dave Bassett (Watford)
  • John Duncan (Ipswich)
  • John Barnwell (Notts County)
  • Mick Buxton (Scunthorpe)
  • Ray Harford (Luton)
  • Jimmy Frizzell (Manchester City)
  • Denis Smith (Sunderland)
  • Cyril Knowles (Torquay)
I will now look up the status of these managers to see how many have passed away.

In the 2023/24 season, Brighton & Hove Albion FC has been performing impressively in both the Premier League and their debut European campaign. Under Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton secured their first-ever qualification for the UEFA Europa League by finishing 6th in the Premier League the previous season. Key players like Kaoru Mitoma, Pervis EstupiΓ±Γ‘n, and new additions such as JoΓ£o Pedro have played crucial roles. The team is continuing to thrive despite high-profile departures like Alexis Mac Allister and MoisΓ©s Caicedo.
For more details on their performances, visit the club’s official pages or relevant match reports.

Are they all British? It's amazing how many I can remember and yet then, as now I'm only interested in who plays for and manages Brighton.

Yeah they all appear to be British... other than Dick Bate, I can't relate to any of them.

Since Chatbot does not recognise the existence of Burnley FC, I can add Brian Miller (1937-2007) to the list of managers no longer with us. A true one club man, he signed for Burnley in 1954 and finished after his second spell as manager in 1989. (With a brief spell as a newsagent in between management spells, in fact simultaneous with the first year of his second spell.)

Why were there uneven numbers of teams in divisions 1 and 2?

21 teams in division 1 and 23 in division 2? 24 in divisions 3 and 4?
They were reducing the number of first division teams from 22 to 20 over a two year period
