Agreed but also have to say the delivery was very good too.

yes it was a great bit of football......March put some similar in swingers in from our right with his left .....no one got anywhere near any of them so we went back to short corners .....there are a few posers in our line up .....haven't bought it up previously but a couple of them really need a good old fashioned rollicking.

I am no expert but would have thought that in the Saints game for example, it wouldn't take long to work out who was looking after what zone and target the shortest player with your best in the air. (Or is that too obvious?)

You put your strongest aerial defenders in the most important/ dangerous zones. In the case of Brighton, Dunk, White and Webster were in the key defensive zones with Bissouma and Welbeck trying to cut off the whipped ball into the 6 yard box and occupying the forward zone. Connolly stopping the short corner and also further protection against the whipped ball. The rest of them are just there to try and slow down and divert the main attackers and March and Lamptey are really looking for the counter rather than defending.

The Southampton goal had a lot of things that went right for Southampton. Gross didn't do much of a job of slowing down Vestergaard; the ball was in an area that meant that Dunk couldn't attack it as he would like (and it might have been better for White to attack it - I think if Duffy had been where White was, he would have done) and even accounting for that, he made a fairly feeble effort at getting off the ground not helped by Gross getting in his way. the delivery was perfect, Vestergaard's jump was excellent and the header was an absolute peach.

It really was a very good goal.

I would also add that man-to-man wouldn't stop this. If Dunk was marking Westergaard, all it would need is a successful dummy or block and Westergaard is free and you get the same result.

Why don't we assume we're going to lose the header, and have people on the posts? We need to help Ryan as much as possible and there are plenty of players not doing anything else so why not have them on the post?

Zonal marking is sh!t. Players dont always know their job and shy away from responsibility. IMO it also leaves open so many variables that at our level just does not work in our favour.

With man making players have a job, simply do not allow your man to get on the ball or have an impact on the set piece.

If every player does their job with man marking, in theory there should be no goal.

you are correct in that individual mistakes took place but the fact that the zonal marking was in play gave the opportunity to create the mistake !! its got to change

Graham Potter says Swansea City's set-piece play will hold them back if they cannot find a solution to their current struggles.
The Swans suffered a seventh-straight away defeat in the Championship as they lost 4-0 to QPR at Loftus Road.

Two of the hosts' goals came from set-pieces, and they had several further opportunities from dead-ball situations.

It followed on from the Swans conceding three goals from such scenarios at West Brom, and a further two in defeat at Nottingham Forest.

And Potter was disappointed to see the Swans again have difficulties.

"It's very frustrating. The first goal looked like a bit of a soft one to be honest," he said.

"You can talk about everything you want in between the boxes but we won't be able to achieve what we want to achieve if we don't get better in those situations.

"So, again, it wasn't good enough.

"We have to try and find a way to be better at that because clearly, it's an area that will hold us back if we don't improve."

Graham Potter's side conceded a staggering 24 times from set-pieces in the Championship, the most of any side in the division during the course of the 2018/29 season.

Can’t agree. OK a missed header from Dunk but if White had been marking a man rather than a space then Soucek doesn’t get to the ball.

100% to do with the zonal marking system, we did not concede stupid goals like today and others this season when we man-marked.
