He was there two years, but was grossly overachieving with them. He also had to sell all of his best players last year, and the same was anticipated this summer. Wolfsburg are potentially a much bigger club, and if he managed to lead them to the top 2 in the Bundesliga they'd have a decent chance of reasonable progress in the Champions League and he could find himself linked with a big job in England/Italy/Spain. I think you've got to strike while the iron is hot, best of luck to him.

The other way of looking at it is that after the farce of his England tenure, he was all but unemployable, until Twente took a chance on him. They might justifiably feel that he owed them some degree of loyalty.

To be fair under him they've just won the dutch title for the first time, having finished second for only the second time in the preceeding season. I think he can leave with his head held high.

The managerial merry-go-round kicks off then.
I can't really see West Ham being interested in Gus (having only just gone down the young, relatively inexperienced foreign manager route). But they could well poach someone elses manager, which will leave a gap to fill elsewhere.

Slade had his 2 year deal within a couple of days of the final game last year. Lets get Gus signed and sealed NOW before all the speculation, all the 'sounding outs' and all the moves start happening. Come on TB, this has to be absolutely top of the agenda right now - never mind discussions after holidays or any of that old bollocks.

If Gus still hasn't signed by this time next week, I'm going to be bricking it.

Zola was a very nice man, media friendly obviously a good friend to the players. But his tactics were poor and team selection left me puzzled most weeks. West Ham played some of the most boring football I have seen played in the EPL in a long long time.

I would not be too unhappy if we got Gus Poyet.

Just out of interest, why are you on here? We haven't played West Ham for years and you are advocating poaching our manager! Not a sleight on you, just curious.

I like the site. I live in Sussex so I like the local talk which you can't get on a West Ham forum. I also have a fondness for Brighton. Gus Poyet won't join West Ham as he has more sense that a especially with David Gold on the board.

How do you feel about Sullivan and Gold then? Hammers on 606 seem to think Sullivan is a twat. Do you share this opinion of them/him?

dont matter
It wont matter how long a contract Gus is on, if/when premier league teams come knocking, i don't mean he'll jump ship, just they wont worry about compo when it comes to getting managers they want.

Would Gold try to entice Curbishley back. Difficult to know whether they will go for an established young manager or take the cheap option because of West Hams debts. Has Steve Clark gone as well?

Zola was a great player, and is one of football's gentlemen. Last season everyone said he was a great manager. This season the shammers have struggled on and off the pitch.

As soon as greedy gold and porn trash sullivan came in they publicly undermined the man as much as possible, immediately released his numeration to the media and went on and on about how he was paid too much.

It was not Zola's fault he was offered such a good salary, Gold and Sullivan knew what it was before they bought the club and they didn't have to buy it.

Zola may not be a great manager, personaly I think he can be a good one, but what is for sure Gold and Sullivan have absolutely no class.

They should have bought Charlton, bling caravan living is about their level.

Saw this coming a mile away obviously the two bellends running the club didn't rate him from minute one.
I can see them going for Avrham Grant myself, Can't see him staying at Pompey. Had relative success with both them & chavski under difficult circumstances, Imagine what he'd be able to achieve if it was on his own terms????

Grant seems to be both the bookies and the fans favourite. He's also worked with Clarke before at Chelsea which makes me think Clarke will stay if Grant gets the job.

Zola was a super bloke....far too nice. His tactics, team selection and lack of any kind of "plan B" showed his total nieveity (spelling ?) in premiership management.

Good luck in the future Franco
