No way will they sell him in January imo. Can’t see them letting him go for anything other than a price that no club will pay. He’ll have to try again in the Summer. The fact that he has been performing well recently also goes against him getting away, they will go into freefall if he leaves.

It must be deeply unsettling to be so completely and utterly reliant on one player, knowing that they are basically one injury away from practically guaranteed relegation. Amazing that after seven whole years in the PL, their squad is so lopsided and bereft of quality that they've still ended up in this position. Along with Bournemouth, they are probably the club most ill-equipped to withstand being relegated - with their eyewatering wages-to-turnover and crumbling infrastructure, it would be an out and out catastrophe. I agree with this. He's worth nowhere near £80m to any buying club, but maybe he's worth more to Palace than the £50m he is probably worth on the open market - without him, they could be in all sorts of trouble.

Consequently, it can only play out one way - Zaha will whine when Palace hold firm with their ludicrous asking price, it will go on forever, and then if it transpires that no sale occurs and Zaha had some verbal agreement that he would be allowed to leave in January, he will end up sulking for months. Lovely stuff.

Palace supporters I know want Zaha out and three / four new players in. Hodgson yesterday said he wants two new strikers in the January window so they clearly need to sell to buy. I presume they would need to get the Zaha deal done early to buy replacements, if not they could end up with sweet FA.

Exactly how much do you think they will recoup from the sale of Benteke. The only benefit to Palace will to have him of the wage bill.

They can't hope to recover much of the £35m they paid for him, surely?

He's got 18 months left on his deal. Even if they were prepared to take a significant price cut on the transfer fee, I can't believe there will be any suitors out there prepared to pick up that eyewatering £120k a week contract of his for such an abject FAILURE of a player (I nearly put 'striker' then, but well, can you really call him that now ?).

I think they'll be stuck with him. His contract will run down, he'll leave for nothing at the end of it, and CPFC2010 can then sit back and reflect on one of the most financially calamitous transfers in PL history. Between him, Sakho, Meyer and the SEGW, they have utterly wreaked havoc on the wage structure there, which is why they're always pleading poverty now whenever a transfer window comes round.
