He's changed agents several times since signing that deal for £130k a week. Nobody put a gun to his head, but reading between the lines the leeches and hangers-on have done very, very well out of him committing his long-term future to CPFC2010.

He's gradually realised he's been held back by a small club which (by completely pricing him out of the market) has ensured he will have spent an entire career in utter mediocrity, with no chance of ever winning anything. In fairness his talent probably deserved better, but he's shackled in a loveless marriage of convenience and its too late to do anything about it now.

I can understand him signing the deal, but to sign it without any get out clauses is mind blowing.

Someone must have said to Wilf, words to the effect of:-

'Don't worry we won't stand in your way, you have my word'. :lolol:

Isn’t that exactly what Parish told him a few years ago. “My word is my bond, no need to put a clause in the contract”

Followed up a few months later with words to the effect. “That’ll teach you to be so naive”

They should make him player-manager.

It seems there are no established manager wants to go there, so, it would be a good solution.

For us.

Hang on a cotton picking minute, you might just have something there.

palace refuse to allow him to leave.
Wilf becomes player 'Pass the ball to me or you're dropped' manager.
palace lose their first 7 games.
Wilf gets the sack.
Wilf is finally free of palace and it's not even bonfire night.

palace still finish above us.

Not quite ironed out all the creases yet.

“A verbal contract is not worth the paper it’s written on “

Just got my moonpig reminder to send the annual SEGW requests transfer day card to my croydon chums. It does seem to come earlier every year.

I’d be surprised if he left now with the new Standium nearly completed (can someone given an update?)

If he wasn't such a prick then I'd almost feel sorry for him. He's far too good for them and made a massive mistake in signing that contract. A player with the ability to win trophies at the top level is going to have wasted most of his career in a shit hole of a stadium, scrapping for 40 points every year playing dull, pragmatic football. It's a criminal waste really.

But it's him, so he deserves it.

I think he’s stuck there now. Wages too high, past his best and worth more to palace than anyone will pay (especially with the big sell on clause).

Still I’m sure he won’t make a song and dance about it.

Apparently Sainsbury's are being un-reasonable by demanding money for their land they legally own.

Parish is upset that when he took over the club Sainsbury's were going to help fund them a new stadium, now that the plans have changed and they are planning to stay where they are he thinks that they should let them have the land on the cheap.

So Sainsbury's were going to help when Palace were planning on moving away and a lot of land would become available, now Palace are staying and increasing their footprint and adding more retail options Sainsbury's are less willing to help, no idea why?

Can we just be clear this is not a stadium but a StaNdium.

It's like a traditional Stadium but so much more - it has a N in it. And if it just turns into actually a collage of Wilf and a new toaster at the training ground, who wouldn't be happy?

Ummm...his talent was given the opportunity to do better. He had the chance to win things with one of the world's biggest and most decorated clubs.

And he bottled it.

Oh dear. What a shame. Nevermind.

I wouldn't have said otherwise. He's been poorly advised, probably exploited, and made some duff career choices. On the other hand he has trousered a kings ransom which will have set him and his family up for life.

But when he retires and looks back on his career, without a single piece of silverware having been stuck at an anonymous little club in south London, it'll surely be tinged with more than a bit of sadness at what could have been.
