That is the equivalent of paying a £25 million loan fee on a 1 year loan.

We'd never do it for any player.

What if suddenly we had a brilliant run and he decided that actually he wanted to stay and we were aiming for top 4. It is very unlikely but not impossible. He would cost far more than 25 million to replace (unless Caicedo is that man after his loan). I am sure That in all likelihood we would sell but we won’t take a ridiculously low price because we are desperate.

I am still hopeful we will have a Ben white type situation anyway where he signs a deal and then leaves for big money.

Caicedo's Beerschot are rock bottom of the Belgian league, with a dismal TWO points from 10 games.

Any bidding warriors will not form a cartel to only bid low.

The one who breaks ranks wins !

Exactly. Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U and whoever else are interested aren’t going to get together and decide not to bid any more than 20-30m. His value will only start to diminish once next summer’s transfer window is over.

Yeh, I don't get the impression that the club consider him ready to step into the PL first team this season or next.

Mwepu when he gets fit I think will get plenty of time from the bench this season, with a view to him being a first team regular next season

They dont need to "get togheter", they only have to look at what is reasonable and reach similar conclusions: "we're simply not paying £50m for a player we can get for free next year". When next summers transfer window is over, his value will be close to zero.

That’s not how it will pan out. They won’t hold back with bids thinking that they can get him for noticing the following season because he’s one of the best midfielders in the league and they will know full well that there’ll be a host of clubs with deep pockets trying to land him in either the ‘22 summer window or ‘23 January window.

`sorry that simply isn't correct. Nobody will pay what he's worth when they negotiate a deal for free - plus it'll be in Bissouma's interests at that point to sit tight

Bidding wars don't happen between clubs upping their transfer offers, they happen between clubs offering the player bigger wages and signing on fees. Once the player has chosen which club he wants to go to the negotiation is pretty much just between that club and the selling club.

The idea of bidding wars where the player is just waiting to find out which club he's off to is all very much in the past.

Absolutely right . The player together with his agent decides which club he wants to join based on the clubs that have offered a contract and the selling club then negotiate with that club over transfer fee.

Except for the competition between clubs, an arm’s race between the usual contenders.

No one club can sit back relaxed and grab a relative bargain for Bissouma’s services.
