Maybe in terms of stockpiling and trading but not in terms of a work permit. RUSG is still the ideal club for getting a work permit.

If Yun Do-Young moved to Melbourne Victory and they won their league and qualified for the Asian Champions League, and he gained the maximum number of points a player can earn for their club, he'd still have to become a full South Korean international before amassing enough points to qualify for a work permit. If he didn't become a full international, he'd fall 8 points short.

If Yun Do-Young moved to RUSG, and they qualified for the UCL group stage, then the would almost certainly qualify for a GB work permit automatically if he appeared in around 40% of league and continental games.

Because RUSG are almost guaranteed to be in the top four in Belgium (a tier 2 league - A League is tier 6) then the pathway to a GB work permit is pretty straightforward for the club regardless of international appearances.

Work permit rules have changed. In June 2023 they made it easier for players without enough points to get a work permit.

Essentially (and I am simplifying things slightly) clubs now get a certain number of slots to sign players who aren't experienced enough, or coming from a league where it's almost impossible to get the required number of points. There are a couple of other considerations, the player has to be considered of an elite contribution level, but a promising youngster who is likely to promote the game and the club overseas can be argued as being that. Also it is not to come at the detriment of home grown players, so clubs who don't give HGPs many minutes won't get as many slots as those that do, we should be ok here too. The third thing is the FA have to agree that the player meets the criteria as well.

Now it's not certain Yun Do-Young would be granted a work permit under the new rules but there is a good chance he would be if we applied for one for him. That doesn't change the fact that we'd probably still send him out on loan to gain experience of a higher level of football at first.

Mid mid mid Sussex
Come from Korea, don't let me wait
You Kimchi boys start much too late
Aw, but sooner or later it comes down to fate
You might as well be the one...

Well, they showed you the Amex, told you to play
Not getting a work permit kept you away
Aw, but they never told you the price that we pay
Train queues in the rain and sun...

Well, only for Yun Do-young
That's what I said
Only for Yun Do-young
Only for Yun Do-young

Problem with using USG to gain experience, is that if both clubs manage to secure Europe again (highly possible), then transfer dealings will be blocked again from the summer.

So we would need somewhere else - we seem to have a good relationship with Sturm Graz, who would likely be playing in Europe again given their position in the Austrian league.

In theory there shouldn’t be any further transfer restrictions. They were only imposed as Tony Bloom fell foul of the UEFA rules over multi club ownership. Now he’s reduced the shareholding he has in USG there would be no need for UEFA to look at the ownership of both clubs again should we both make Europe again, so no further sanctions should be imposed.

And when it's time for you to come back and Canada has been turned into the US's 51st state what are you going to do?
Who said anything about going back? :ascarf:😁

I hope that's the case.

I thought he reduced his ownership so that both clubs would be permitted to compete, and the restrictions were imposed after this reduction, as there was still an ownership by one common party in both clubs. Villa and Chelsea amongst others have had similar restrictions with partner clubs.

I may well have understood wrong.

UEFA have a rule that says no one may own more than 30% of a second club. As part of the ruling that allowed both clubs to play in Europe Bloom had to reduce his ownership of USG and the clubs would be subject to an 18 month transfer ban to ensure no conflict of interest. As TB no longer owns more than 30% of USG there is no rules that we fall foul of therefore there should be no further restrictions.

For example - There has never been any sanctions imposed on West Ham and Sparta Prague despite Daniel Kretinsky owning 27% of West Ham and nearly half of Sparta as he’s doesn’t hold over 30% in the second club.
