[Humour] You've got to hand it to Bezos .....

The only thing I want to hand to Bezos is an invoice for the tax his company hasn't paid globally

I'd rather our government grew some balls and went after them instead. But they won't because of the jobs it creates and PAYE / NI it generates

I think the thing that winds me up the most is that he could put a very hefty portion of that money towards solving real-world problems, actual things that would help millions of people. But he instead builds himself a c**k-rocket to blast himself into space. For some reason.

It's his money but FFS dude, you could go down in history as someone who altered the path of humanity positively but seems to want to go in as the richest man-child ever.

EDIT: And he'd make all of the money back easily as well. He'd be out of pocket for a day, tops.

Anyone who wants to make that amount of money should be treated with extreme suspicion.

Check out John Timpson if you think there are no decent entrepreneurs.

Oh, I’m not saying there aren’t decent, well-meaning entrepreneurs. Just more a case of becoming obscenely wealthy probably happened at the expense of other human beings, and that you probably have to scroll quite a way down the global rich list before you find someone with unquestionable character and moral values.

You’ve got Bill Gates, who should be commended for his philanthropic efforts, however there’s no denying that Microsoft’s dominance and wealth hasn’t been accumulated without the helping had of a teeny-weeny bit of slave labour along the way.

There's going to be a lot of jealousy directed at this bloke. We'd all love to have his money, wether we admit it or not.

Honestly I wouldn't.

Would I like to have more money than I do? Absolutely.

Would I want untold billions? **** no. I think it would make your life a lot worse in many ways, you'd lose lots of friends and at least for me I would feel a huge responsbility that would be very stressful. Far rather just be comfortable than mega rich, personally.

You could say that about Tony Bloom. He's put £400M-£500M or so into the football club. 70% of the clubs revenue goes to players which benefits no-one really.

Think about what that money could do to the homeless, drugs, alcohol problems in Sussex?

Anyone watched Don't Look Up?

Bezos is Peter Isherwell (with dollops of Musk and Jobs thrown in). All of them egotistical, self-righteous, greedy and arrogant men.

The only thing I've been handing to Bezos is shed loads of money, judging by the amount of parcels turning up at Chez Bobkin in recent weeks

Oh for sure, it could be said about every rich person.

The difference, in my eyes, with Bezos is that he isn't just rich. He's beyond that.

Get your knickers in a twist with Bezos et al all you want, but the simple fact is it's clearly human nature.

There's always been an 'I'm alright jack' aspect in society.

"What did the Romans do for us?"
We can spend our weekends walking around the castles of the rich.
We're so lucky to have Victorian engineering.
Then right up to present day and we've elected 'one of them' to make our decisions for us.

The problem is the monied few have always been able to divide and conquer the majority.

Knew this would rile a few :)

I'm not really impressed with the money and the flash. More with the reversal of the ageing process. Amazing what money can buy (including the woman I guess)

Still in Brighton
I'm afraid I'm in the "I can't stand Amazon / they should pay their proper tax amount... yet I do still use them for purchases" camp (well, when I wangled a "student" account for Prime through a free internet course I never completed, much less so now without Prime).

If I was well-off enough not to worry about getting the item I need cheapest, yes ,I would absolutely boycott them. I don't buy tat from them but I do buy some essentials from them if they're cheaper (via someone else's Prime account).

Therefore, I cannot judge this CJTC Bezos really :(

However, I don't envy him in the slightest for reasons already stated. I would never want to stop the true love of mine: going to a car boot sale or charity shop and finding something amazing/I'm looking for or something to sell on. That kind of joy is priceless to me. Having enough money to be comfortable and have holidays, help out others and donate to charity is the goal really.

Fair play to him I say. Right time, right place. Would I waste my money on rockets, damn right I would.

Brighton factually.....
Genuine question; who would be the wealthiest self-made person whom at you couldn’t level such an accusation?

You know I really do not know, people like Richard Branson would have been included, once upon a time a self made man, against the machine, however they all go past a point and then ultimately join and feed the self made machine and become a monster, like Branson, who is totally loathsome now...

So sadly, excessive money changes everyone, it is human nature, it changes your status, it changes how people behave around you, it changes your world view, you are at the behest of advisors as well, let us not forget, it is not all their fault, caring less about humanity and what is right sadly falls by the wayside in the plan to keep and grow that wealth, it is inevitable.

I can think of none, that have made millions and stayed at work, I am sure there are some who have made their money, and left normal main stream society and shunned the so called glitz and glam of life, I would like to think that is what I would do now, but would I have done that when I was younger probably not.

Amazing what one can achieve with an accountant that knows how to exploit tax law.

"cheats on his wife with his friend's wife" - If true, that is all you need to know about him IMHO.

his whole persona just screams ......."cooooock"

flying william shatner into space so he can patronise us about what a mess "we" are making of the planet.......get ****ed...!! somebody came up with the answer to the planets problems and now the elite are making trillions treating the population against it.....you gotta laugh.

Yep, and I think making inordinate amounts of money largely from addicts losing all of theirs is fit for the morally questionable pile.
