This is very tough

1 Blackadder
2 Fawlty Towers
3 Fools and Horses
4 The Office
5 Men Behaving Badly

Sadly no room for The Simpsons (I might have this wrong), Harry Enfield, Alan Partridge, Not the Nine O Clock News or MPFC. Which are all excellent.

No, he has come up with a working definition of TV comedy.

It's a genre, just like horror or westerns. Surely it needs some boundaries?

No, not really. If people rate The Simpsons as comedy (which a sizable proportion of posters on here do) and it has been voted best comedy ever on a couple of magazine and TV polls, then why shouldn't it be?

I really don't like Fawlty Towers. Shouting. Shouting. Slapping. *yawn*

Brass Eye has to be in there for me.

Oh its too difficult. I'll just hate and love those 2 for now.

of course! 8 years on and my mind is getting addled!

Monty Python's Flying Circus...?

It's either that or the Metropolitan Police Flying Club or the Madhya Pradesh Financial Corporation, neither of which I have ever found particularly amusing.

I would put the case forward for the Good Guys (sadly underrated precursor of reality comedy), Police Squad, Father Ted, Miranda and Shaun the Sheep.
