Leeds, cardiff, Millwall, pompey, saints. Letting that lot into our concourse after the game is insane and asking for trouble. Especially if there has been any controversial decisions on the pitch. Football may have moved on since the seventies but not that much.

This

(Maybe also Palarse)

No chance in reality. Would be all sorts of problems from the odd smack in the mouth to bigger disorder

Not trying to argue here but letting the away fans mingle is definetly initally happening. This is how they are going to poiice this according to Darren Balkam the Police Lliason Officer with the Albion. Sussex Police are confident they can idenify trouble makers way before they reach the ground and eliminate the potential for incidents before they happen in and around The Amex. We were also notified of this at the supporters clubs meeting with Tony Bloom last friday

Why is it assumed that any mixing of fans will end in fisty e cuffs ?
It happens in pubs around grounds before games every Saturday.
We have moved on from the 70's

Spot on. Not only do we regularly have a civil beer & a chat with opposition fans before a lot of away games, but wasn't it the "keep different fans apart of there will be a riot!" attitude that (amongst a million other things) made Archer look like a complete prick around Fans United?

Obviously I'm not suggesting that the Fans United emotion and support is something that will be seen again, but opposition fans are quite capable of having a drink together without acting like Neanderthals.

I must admit, a beer or two with opposition fans after a game has usually been a very enjoyable experience.

I just hop it works well in the ground, and another step forward that the club are taking.

Please don't compare the Amex to the boring shithole that is St marys!

Shithole ?? Hardly. Yes it doesnt have the comfy seats but the atmosphere is awesome when anything towards 30k. The bowl design although common, creates a caldron of sound. Cant comment on the Amex as I havent been there but I've never had any complaints about SMS. Good access, easy walking distance from loads of pubs, 32.5k capacity and a quality atmosphere.

Looking forward to going to a few games at the Amex next season but SMS is home and I love it there.

The atmosphere is crap, how the noise travels makes it sound like thousands of little girls are screaming in a school play ground.... as for access, the station is far away and isnt sign posted and I've never found the station on the way home without getting lost first

Then you obviously didnt go there this season gone. Loads of Albion fans said after it was f***ing noisy. The design of the stadium makes the noise stay in the bowl. Anyway not all stadiums of that design are the same. Leicesters is the same inside but has far less space in the concourses and is much more cheaper and plastic.

I was there, not saying there's no noise, the noise is just shit. St marys is boring and has no character what so ever.

I think our fans are very harsh on St Mary,s. I reckon its ok. Its not ugly, atmosphere is good and it holds 30k. Not saying i would swap it with The Amex but i bet the Saints fans were thrilled when they moved there from the cramped conditions of The Dell. Not everyone thinks The Amex is the bees Knees......we do cos its our home!!

I seem to remember last season. Saints did there " when the saints go marching in " a few times ( once or twice a bit loud) but mainly Brighton out singing. I live in a place full of saints fans. And loads of them went to man united and the last game. If you look at most attendance stats. It's no where near 31k. I live in andover. It's only 45 mins away and they are still plastic supporters. I know there is probably 10-15k good supporters. Just that none of my mates are so they get taken the piss taken out of them :) season ticket next season.. Can't wait.

Then stay there and stop bothering us.
its like the guy in the pub peering over your shoulder trying to join in your conversation.

Whatever  Just makes me laugh when certain fans cant help slagging off other teams stadiums, even with theres an extra 10k capacity on yours, especially when some of you have been so sensitive on anyone taking the piss out of your prediciment - Withdean, Gillingham etc

I have to say, its on of the best football stadiums iv been to and iv been to about 100 football grounds, Its just my personal opinion but its in my top 5, better than the molineux, white hart lane, reading, southampton, superb cushioned seats, the pies are a 10/10, the kids happy style meal is a good idea, some of the internal cosmetic work still needs doing but its perfect, the only problem i had was spending a fortune on my son in the mega store:drama:.the only query i have is after the game mixing with away fans for prolonged amounts of time could be interesting.

Southampton ain't one of the best. Soul less oval of the same copy cat lego design as Derby, Leicester & MBoro.

Wembley, OT, Emirates, Chelsea, Anfield (parts of), Newcastle, Man City etc .... many worlds apart (above) from St.Mary's.

The relegations that followed, posh Rupert Lowe, ill treatment to this day of Lawrie McMenemy & other legends ... there's been few happy times in the lego bowl.

10-15k good supporters? Jesus really. Apparently you have sold 18k ST's - where have these fans come from?? Where were these at Withdean?

Interesting post. So lets get this right and using your anology;

Saints, Boro, Leicester and Derby all have similar grounds, all around 30 to 35k, all medium sized clubs.
Man u, Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle etc. All 50k plus. All big clubs.
Any team with around say 22k ground - small clubs.

There was lots of people who only went to away games crazy I know. I know withdean was shit. But now we have a new ground and the club have made it one of the best in the country. Not capacity wise. With all the little things they have done. ( away fans get colours of there team on concourse and a few or there legends , all padded seats, mosaic of Peter ward, concrete slabs with peoples personal words on them outside the ground , good drinks/food ) loads more that I have heard but can't remember :) yes there will be new fans there. But it will be full .. Week in week out. And hopefully these new ones can sing and make it noisy. but with help from WSU and N I'm sure it won't be hard :D

The best Policing i have ever seen at a Brighton away match was a few years ago at Plymouth Argyle.
We got off our coach as we been followed for miles (yes it was a bit of a nutters bus) but to be fair the Old Bill were polite but firm friendly and very fair and chatty.
The two sets of supporters were kept well away from each other with the very least amount of fuss. Before and after the match.
We were followed for about 5 miles out of Plymouth by two cop cars after the match.
There was no aggro at all because they acted professionally and politely.
It makes a massive difference.
On the other hand the worst Policing i have ever witnessed was away to Palarse when we lost 5-0 (nothing to do with our rivalry with them at all) jesus those dickheads were just plain looking for trouble from the moment we got to central London.
They caused so many problems it was ridiculous even some of the Palarse fans were saying afterwards shall we all join up and kick the Old Bills heads in instead !!!!!!!!!
Now theres a miracle !!
