"I dont pay you to take corners, I pay you to score goals, now get in the box". At a training session when a centre forward went to take a corner. A sentiment that explains why CMS has failed, for all his running around, he just hasn't scored goals, and that is what he was paid to do.

- another one for Barnes and CMS this season!

When Pearce had concussion "Tell him that he's Pele and that he's playing up front for the last 10 minutes"

Are there any threads that you cannot have a go at Barnes or CMS on?!!

Almost forty years ago, this happened....

Can't quite believe it's that long ago. Still remember my dad telling me how exciting and how important the signing was. I was six at the time.

love the Albion sweater

What an extraordinary game that was. I was in the south stand in the seats above the standing area. One of my earliest footballing memories was the feeling of disappointment as we walked away from the ground along Newtown Road. I suppose it was preparing me for life as an Albion fan lol!

To Teddy Sherringham, "I'm calling you Edward because that's what it says on your birth certificate."

Clough may have been closet Palace fan
On Cantona's kung-fu kick at Selhurst Park: "I'd have cut his balls off."

I wouldn't be so sure about the Palace-loving. I recently learned that when Forest were 3-0 up against Palace in a FA Cup tie Clough effectively humiliated our caravan-dwelling friends by withdrawing a perfectly fit player to 'give him a ret' and voluntarily playing with 10 men for the last quarter of an hour. I think he player was Steve Hodge.

Bravo!

And here's the headline before the York match....

If we had got the best of Clough (as loyal and dedicated as he was to Forest) I wonder how far he could have taken us...

One of my fave Cloughie 'moments' was the one described here:-

Having recently fallen foul of the great man, ITV reporter Elton Welsby decided to tread carefully when he was sent to cover Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest in one of ITV's live games of the late 1980s.

Doing a live piece to camera following the match, Welsby must have been a relieved man when he heard the familiar nasal tones over his shoulder. "Young Welsby," Clough announced. "S**thouse!" Then he walked off.

And his viewpoint on managers getting the boot:

"If a chairman sacks the manager he initially appointed, he should go as well."

I loved the interview on Yorkshire TV after Clough had been sacked by Leeds, him and Revie were debating and Clough said " I wanted to win it, but better than how You won it "

Great Television.

73? New Pence by then.

Sorry my mistake, would have been 3d if it was old money, and of course, decimalisation was 1971:ffsparr:

I was in that 20,000 crowd for the York game.

North Stand. Boring 0-0 draw.

The greatest ever thing about Brian Clough was the Spittin' Image sketch with him arranging his drinks cabinet
