[Albion] Your Most Enjoyable Promotion Season

Not a lot happening at the moment so I thought a bit of reminiscing is in order - particularly for the older and wiser(!) among us. I have had the privilege of being around for ten of our eleven promotions. A quick recap of those seasons :

1957/58, 1964/65, 1971/72, 1976/77, 1978/79, 1987/88, 2000/01, 2001/02, 2003/04, 2010/11, 2016/17

My favourite three are - 1971/72, because it was so unexpected and a wonderful climax to the season.

1976/77, our home record was unbelievable, with Wardy on fire and us scoring 63 goals at the Goldstone made it a delight watching the team at Fortress Hove.

My absolute best though is our last, 2016/17. Having just missed out, agonisingly so, in the previous season we were up for this one. Chris Hughton was superb as our manager. The team spirit was unbelievable. The quality of our play often astonishing.

Of course we have moved onto bigger and better things - next stop Europe anyone?

For me my favourite season ever !

1971-72 for me - at Uni, so plenty of time on my hands and no committments, plus hitch-hiking was a doddle back then. Could get back to Liverpool after an evening match and still be in time for lectures in the morning (not that I went to them very often, probably why I only got a II ii !)

71/72 for me too, it was the first season I had been allowed to go to night games on my own and there were some brilliant ones!

1964/65
Unbeaten at home , an ex-England centre forward in the team, 6 players scored 10 or more goals, 102 goals in total.
It was my third season of being a Brighton fan , and I have never forgotten the excitement I felt.

For me my favourite season ever !

Same for me, but maybe an age thing. Also loved the last season at Withdean.

2016/17 for me.

Although there were ups and downs as with all seasons, especially in the Championship, it felt like it was somehow meant to be.

Everything just seemed to come together to get us across the line, and the day of the Wigan game and Huddersfield/Derby where it was all confirmed just encapsulated that.

My favourite season ever.

2004 day out in Cardiff - was proof that we may actually fill a larger stadium - which at the time we seemed quite unlikely to ever get

10/11 for me. We went top of the division in September and stayed there winning at a canter. Winning 8 games out of 8 in March was superb.

16/17 a close second but spoiled when we threw away the championship with three games to play.

My first experience of a promotion was 64/65 so enjoyable for that reason.

10/11 for me. As [MENTION=14365]Thunder Bolt[/MENTION] says, winning 8 from 8 in March was ridiculous. The away performances at Charlton and Peterborough will probably stay with me forever.

I've follow BHA since 1969 so my fav.3 are: 1971/72-you had to have been in the North Stand to understand!
1978/79-a season of goals and great football.The joy of Newcastle away,what support!
2016/17-unbelievable! say no more.

Should have been 90/91. Went to the majority of games that season and thoroughly enjoyed it. Damn you, Colin.

Yes, this. That Nelson and Bremner season was great and I went to more games that season than any other - all the home games bar one (a rare 3-1 defeat to Blackpool) and about half the away games.

Same first and last for the same reasons. We might have stayed up 72/3 had the blistering home form at the end of the season not kicked in sooner. Tony Towner on the wing....

But my favourite was the one that culminated in promotion away at Plymouth. Zamora season. Me and my son went to a good dozen or more away games that year.

I was at Newcastle the last time we went into the top division but I had been following us since 1975 and we had been on a generally upward trajectory culminating in that promotion. It was fabulous but the one where we made the PL was so special, we had been through so much grief, had a wonderful few years at Withdean, heartbreak the year before, I doubt the moment I knew we were up will ever be surpassed for me.

Summed up the unbelievable spirit of the club and players at the time, fantastic.

57/58 Being our first ever promotion with Adrian Thorne a local lad scoring 5 goals in our last game to clinch the title and promotion. This was when only the top team got promoted

64/65 When all five forwards scored double figures

78/79 Will never forget that final day win at Newcastle

57/58: Adrian Thorne, Frankie Howard (no, not him. This one went on to be our groundsman for a long time), Roy Jennings
64/65: Bobby Smith, Wally Gould, Brian Powney
78/79: Brian Horton, Mark Lawrenson, Peter Ward (To us what Law, Best, Charlton were to that lot)
