I think he'll go full John Sitton

"Don't you know how profound that is, are you not examining the ****ing words. Because you've had two good performances and you think I'm 'Bertie Big Bollocks tonight, I'll ****ing play how I like. ' But you won't play how you like, because if you play how you like, I'll ****ing stick the youth team in."

My best ever team talk was during the last season of mini minor football, years ago. We had a friendly with a team the year above. 9 aside on a ¾ pitch.

During the warm up our boys were obviously nervous and kept looking over at the other team. For the team talk I asked if they were afraid because the other team were a year older. Plenty of furtive glances at each other and looking at the ground. I then asked who played against the year above at break times at school. Now they were curious. I then asked who regularly 'skinned up' those older kids during break times. Cue light bulb moments, lots of smiling and chatting among themselves.
Our boys then went out and played the other team off the park, winning 5 - 1 :lol:

I think you may have misinterpreted their enthusiasm

One was using the vernacular :wink:

At least second is already amazing, enjoy the occasion.

My fear if we lose is people won’t get this. Certainly not a number of posters on here. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen!

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!!

I'd just say "We've done our prep. We've done the talking. You know what to do. You know how to do it. Go onto the pitch before the whistle and smile, laugh, look confident. Nothing rattles the opponent more than that. When the whistle blows, stick to the plan."

Last words as Southgate?

"There's only one football genius whose tactical insights will get us past Italy tonight. I can do no better than quote him. Whatever happens, just remember you've got to hold and give, but do it at the right time. You can be slow or fast but you must get to the line. They'll always hit you and hurt you, defend and attack. There's only one way to beat them: get round the back.

Now let's go and win this trophy..."
