Pulp Fiction is a magnificent piece of work and in my top 20 films of all time. It is Tarantino's Citizen and like Spielberg is unlikely to ever do a better film than Schindler's List , Tarantino will never better Pulp Fiction.

WOTW shouldn't really be considered as one of the worst films of the years; not with so moany other worthy contenders about.

However, it was popular and was directed by Spielberg and starred Tom Cruise. it is obviouslt going to be fashionable to hate it.

Its a joke, like nominating War of the Worlds as one of the 5 worst films of the year is a joke.

If you think that WOTW is good, you really need to get out more.

It's poorly acted and scripted with a plot of unbelievable corniness - even the scriptwriters couldn't think of a plausible excuse to get the son back alive, so it just 'happened'. All the special effects in the world couldn't cover up all the defects.

And Narnia - best action film ever?

That one had me going too.

I'm such a fool!

WOTW obviously wasn't one of the worst films of the years, but considering the talents involved in making it, it was very disappointing

The question wasn't "what were the worst films of the year" but "what were the worst films you've seen"

I haven't seen a huge number but WOTW was by some distance one of the worst two I've seen.

Best tell that to Empire, they liked it: http://www.empireonline.com/athome/movies/review.asp?id=116825

So did the Times: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,22711-1673909,00.html

Harry Knowles on Aint it Cool said "This is the very best film I’ve seen this year": http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=20580

RottenTomotoes.com shows it had many more favourable reviews than not in the US: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/war_of_the_worlds/

Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not one of my films of the year, but in the top 5 worst? Surely not. Did anyone else catch White Noise? Elektra? The Dukes of Hazzard? XXX: State of the Union? Domino? etc

Hang on though D J...you're forgetting. War of the Worlds had a massive budget, was advertised heavily, had a high profile director, a big name playing the lead role, and had lots of special effects. Those ingredients alone will absolutely GUARANTEEE that loads of people would automatically thumb their noses at it, so they can stick two fingers up at Hollywood and bask in their own self-satisfaction that they're far too clever to be caught up in all the hype. How CRASS it would be to actually enjoy such a film, eh.

Or maybe that more people had seen it and could therefore actually say that that's one of the worst films of the year?

Or maybe more people go to see a summer blockbuster determined to ignore the positives and slate it regardless...
