My first mobile I got on a fortnight's trial in 1996, having rather drunkenly succumbed to the blandishments of a dollybird populated stand on Victoria stn one evening. When I asked what the reception was like in Seaford, they went "Umm...not brilliant." I fell asleep on the train, woke up in Eastbourne and decided to try out the phone on the bus over the hills. Result..only workable on the hilltops. Seaford was worse, I could only phone out from the beach or from my allotment! So I gave it back.
Still a few places locally where reception is bad, Alfriston I think is in a black hole, the locals there seem to like it that way.
