Wasn't the first match I went to. But I can remember being disappointed by this match, because it was the last game of the season, and both teams were mid-table with nothing really to play for. I was hoping it was going to be an exciting end-to-end attacking 6 - 5 win to the Albion, but it wasn't

Posted this before. Just dredged it up from the archives via the search facility...

I was lucky enough to be taken to my first Albion game by my Dad too, at the Goldstone back in mid-70s, for my 7th birthday treat.
To be honest I can recall virtually NOTHING about the game itself, but was absolutely bewitched by the big crowd, the atmosphere, the flood lights fizzing through the drizzzle and the sea-mist at half-time and bathing the pitch in bright white light; the chanting and singing; the ear splitting roar that echoed around the rafters in the West Stand when Brighton scored and watching the sea of people behind the goal on the (then) uncovered north stand tumbling down the terracing and lobbing bog rolls over the cross bar.
SOMETHING WAS HAPPENING - I wasn't quite sure what, exactly - but all that mattered that I was THERE. And that I wanted to go again and again and again. Hooked.

All followed by a brisk walk across Hove Park after the game past lines of mental police dogs and back into the Opel Manta (cool 70's car, Dad!) in time for Sports Report on Radio 2 and liver & bacon casserole when we got home.
Sadly, they don't make birthdays like that anymore ....

PS, it was 21st Feb, 1976

Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 Halifax Town

The Wizard - usually so vocal on this site ...
Conspicuous by his absence on this thread.
Surely it cannot be that he has never been to a live Albion game?
C'mon, join in the fun Wiz.

First game that I can remember who we played, was in 1954 when we beat Tonbridge. I think the score was 5 - 0 but I'm quite happy to be corrected.

I know I went to earlier games, 52-53 season, but can't remember who we played.

Thats because you were excited about the birth of your little brother:wave:

1958 I think. 1-1 draw v Bristol Rovers. Both sides missed a pen - ours hit the bar and theirs hit the roof of the north stand. I got a sore bum sitting on the barrier.
