YOUR favourite Wimbledon tennis moments

Bjorn Borg played Vitus Garulitus, I think it was a semi-final, and it was the greatest match I ever saw. It was back in the days of the smaller, wood rackets, and it was an incredible and intensely fought game.

Perhaps it was made more intense and tooth-and-nail by the fact that they were practice-partners and friends, and knew each other's game inside out. No adjective does it justice, it was utterly magnifisplendacious

Now that really is the correct answer, if you're old enough to remember it. Connors against Pernfors was a great comeback, but this one was the most intense match-up you will ever see from beginning to end.

It was outrageous wasn't it!
Do you remember, they had a rally where they were both flipping the ball cross-court side to side, just over the net? It might not even have been the longest rally, but it was impossible tennis made to happen. I couldn't believe my eyes, it was that good.:ohmy:

They were Thor vs Loki of tennis, in that match

For me, it was definitely this, from a pithy Wikipedia:

In the fourth round of the 1987 Wimbledon, Connors defeated Mikael Pernfors, ten years his junior, 1-6, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 after having fallen behind 1-6, 1-6, 1-4 and again 0-3 in the fourth set.

The snarling old gunslinger just refused to lay down and die, I watched every ball of that game and it was brilliant stuff. But which is YOUR favourite Wimbledon memory?

When it finishes every year.

That's SIX times we've had the same joke in this thread - and personally speaking, I have soiled myself copiously while issuing wild, howlingly uncontrollable gales of laughter on every one of those precious occasions.

1975 - Arthur Ashe beating Connors (sorry MoH). Connors should have walked it - but Arthur Ashe - one of the good guys, strolled it. He used his brains against the grunt of Connors.

I can't help but perceive a slight hint of sarcasm in that post, MoH.
