Inspired by the tangent that the Michael Caine thread went off at..

It seems that Westerns are few and far between these days but they were a staple diet of my youth.

Off the top of my head, Wagon Train and Boots and Saddles stand out as the ones I loved when very young. Plenty more though, what were your favourites?

Gunsmoke and Bonanza too

This could well be an old codger thread

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a western , good old cowboys against Indians , probably not PC in these times anymore . Does Dallas count ? Used to enjoy that along with Dynasty.

Of the more modern ones I enjoyed the remake of 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe

Just remembered Once Upon A Time in the West, a great and atmospheric movie

Seaford
Butch Cassidy
Dances with Wolves
Good, Bad and Ugly

and even though it isn't I'll add it as it was brilliant and sounds like it might be on topic

Midnight Cowboy

I remember The Virginian. One episode was all about rabies and it scared the life out of me as an impressionable child.

I've never been a big fan of westerns. I made myself watch a bunch when working through the IMDb top 250 a few years back, and it didn't really change my mind.

I have enjoyed a few:

Maverick (though I'm not sure I've watched it since Mel Gibsons 'troubles')
True Grit (the remake)
Back to the Future part 3

El Dorado with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan.

Gunfight at the OK Corral with Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster and DeForrest 'Dr McCoy' Kelley.

There’s plenty of modern Westerns worth mentioning;

True Grit
3:10 To Yuma
Hostiles
Open Range
Deadwood series and the recent follow up feature
Godless (very underrated Netflix series)
The Assassination of Jess James by the Coward Robert Ford
American Outlaws
Bone Tomahawk

Not sure these would be ‘modern’ any more but Tombstone, City Slickers, Last of the Mohicans and Dances with Wolves are all brilliant. In fact Tombstone is up there with the best films ever made in my book.
