[Sussex] Your Favourite Town Or Village In Sussex

I'm going to make a decision based on my Athletic Brighton FM 18 save where I decided to only (and on a limited budget) sign Sussex-born players + former Brighton players.

My starting eleven looks like this:

Ignoring Brighton itself, this leads me to believe that if there is such a thing as a paradise in Sussex, its probably Horsham.

I cannot believe, Gareth Barry or Solly March, Kerry Mayo even did not make the team.

I used to walk there with my dogs when I lived in Saltdean.
As you say it’s very peaceful, when walking there it is hard to believe that a city with a population of 250,00 is just over the hill.

Was up there recently, some fantastic views and walks.

Once walk is complete we tend to use the Royal Oak or Two Sawyers at Pett for pint and lunch (prior to covid19).

Lindfield and Bozzam for me - both very close to my heart. And of course neither have a Sussex postcode, the world-famous Redhill and the grim Portsmouth.

I'm 64 and lived in Sussex, worked in Brighton, for 50 of those years. I've never heard about Balsdean and, had I not looked it up, would have thought it a wind-up. Incredible that this little village with church & farm were completely destroyed. Google Earth shows some outlines of buildings. Going to take that walk this summer.

Eridge is very much in Sussex even though postal address for Eridge Park is Kent. Kent border is on the edge of T Wells.

Never knew that was there. My mum pushed me up Bazehill road in the push chair in the early 60s. I remember tiny little flowers growing at the side of the road that she called 'shoes and socks' that smelled of orange juice. Actually it was before my brothers were born so it must have been the summer of 1959; perhaps my earliest memory. Thanks for posting

My Dad, still alive, remembers the Balsdean hamlet. In more recent decades he loved walks in those quiet chalk valleys (Coombes) .... literally Far From The Madding Crowd.

One day having passed it hundreds of times i will stop for a pint at The Swan at Fittleworth. Any heads up?

As a resident of 20+ years, it's not a terrible pub - it used to be better under previous ownership but not the worst place to stop. Tried becoming more of a gastro-pub than a drinking hole which lost some of its charm.
Personally i'd carry on the A283 and stop at the White Hart on Stopham Bridge - lovely place to sit by the river in the summer.

On-topic, being a west sussex native i've got a lot of love for a few places:

Sutton (great pub there and nicely nestled away)
Petworth
Fittleworth (naturally)
West Chiltington (I know i've made it when I can afford a house there)
Amberley
Wisborough Green (though it does give off the occasional Midsomer vibe)
Southwater (before all the development anyway)
Christs Hospital
Barns Green
Still got a soft spot for Billingshurst, but it's sadly a bit of a ghost town now

Bazehill road still a lovely road to walk up (did it last week with my sister), although its now tarmacked.

There is a book my sister bought in a charity shop in Woodingdean. The terrible outcome of all the Canadians camped out between there and Wiston who were sent on the Dieppe Raid Over 1000 killed oer 500 wounded and 2000 captured.

Yes one of the things I love about it, almost silence and only a 30 minute walk from Woodingdean

Really worth it especially if you drop down from the South Downs way onto it. You can find the alter stone (broken) that the Canadian soldiers put back after the Dieppe Raid.

Yes. Would recommend this spot to anyone -wonderful views and lovely walks.

Lived in Fairlight two years... at the top of the hill near the church..... loved every minute.
