And there's another excellent Yew Tree down the road in Chalvington too.

Oh God! 1st pub I ever got REAALLY drunk in. And (hangs head in shame) on Watneys Special too. But I WAS only 17 and didn't know better.

Piddinghoe, shame it lost it's pub though.

I have good memories of Piddinghoe.

My Dad & his brothers built the house in the old quarry right next to the main road in about '87, '88. I spent a few college holidays there earning a bit of cash - and that experience helped to make up my mind to forge a career in architecture.

Spoken like a bitter Haywards Heath resident.

How can you associate a place that looks like that with Haywards Heath?!

(obviously my argument is flawed as i'm a Lindfield resident...:lolol: )

And me, I was born there and lived there for 9 years and my Dad wrote a book about it called "Dear Amberley".

It's sitting on my desk right now!

My dad's family originally came from Amberley. I've walked around the graveyard spotting my name on the stones and some of my ancestors are mentioned in the Dear Amberley book.

I can think of no nicer place to visit on a hot summer's day .... but imagine it's a bit bleak in the winter.

Way out west
I will have to have a look at the dear Amberley book, apparently there is a building called "Ruffs barn", that was named after a dim and distant relative of mine.
