In appreciating there's a difference between people whose voices I like rather than the songs they're singing, I'd end up with two different lists. So I am going for the people with the best voice...

Male: Levi Stubbs, Terry Reid, Marvin Gaye

Female: Karen Carpenter, Dusty Springfield, Judy Collins

Some good shouts on female singers. Love Paloma Faith, Natalie Merchant, Whitney could sing a bit too. Buzzer 's tip of Frazey Ford is up there now as well. That bird from London Grammar....

Think Stevie Nicks wins it for me though. They're all clearly BLASTED in this but **** me, what a voice and what a performance.....

Brighton factually.....
Jimmy Driftwood, he was a teacher and wrote songs to teach his students about American history, such a wonderful rural voice from the Ozark mountains in Arkansas.

I could listen to his voice all day long, my retirement dream is to be sat in a rocking chair with a nice whisky, and my hound laid on the veranda of my wooden cabin staring out across the Arizona desert listening to Jimmy...
