"If I went to Southampton at the beginning of this season I'd say ok, let's agree a fee, now if we don't go up as Champions, I don't want paying..."[/I]
:

Classic, and I guarantee the fee he'd have negotiated would have been quite a bit more than they are paying Adkins to bumble along.

If I'd seen that quote pre-season I'd have laughed but not taken it seriously, I actually believe given the right situation that is exactly wht Gus would do, He has TOTAL faith in his own ability and it's rubbed off on the players and the fans now.

I've learnt a hell of a lot about the game just from listening to the great man.

It's gotten to the stage where if people question my patient passing football on FIFA I'll end up reeling off a load of Gus' quotes without realising where they've come from.

"As long as I have the ball, you can't score."
"It's all about taking risks."
"Eees complicated." (if they ask why I take so long with my goal kicks)

He's opened my eyes in so many ways.

"I can't take penalties or be the ref but if I could we would have won the game."

"The referee was ten yards away and doesn't give it.

"We don't even have to look at the video. It doesn't matter how many angles. The only excuse they have got is 'he didn't see it'. Didn't see it? He needs some glasses."
“The biggest disappointment with the linesman is that he was in the wrong position to give it.

“Why did he get involved? To get famous?

“The referee gave the free-kick and he was closer to the action. Why did the assistant get involved? He was six, seven yards forward and at the wrong angle. He could not see the line.

“But now he is going home to say ‘have a look at me on television, I’m famous!’”

Pre Peterborough away:

“There are even people talking that it’s the biggest game of the season. With all respect to Peterborough it’s not.

“We’ve got plenty of games to play. We’ve got big, big teams in the division like them, Sheffield where we have already played, we have got to play Southampton and we have been to The Valley.”

“I would do it if I was playing against the team at the top of the league,” he said. “There is no doubt it is a bigger game for them than it is for us.

“There is no doubt they have got the obligation of winning the game. I think they are lucky they are playing against a team who always play to win.

“We are not going there just to hold them, not even for the first 20 minutes. We are not holding – we are going there to play our game, simple as that.”

Gus Poyet has revealed why he put his players on the spot at Burgess Hill.
Poyet said: “The penalty takers that are very good in in training sometimes get panicky in games.

“People think it’s just Burgess Hill but I don’t think anyone wants to miss.

“You have to walk through the people standing two yards behind the goal afterwards. You need to put the ball in.”

"People tell me that when you have two penalties in a game, you should have two takers. But I have not got one, so how can I possibly get a second?

....The cult of Gus is emerging with the Amex as it's temple, the team as it's priests and the fans as the congregation.

......I just made that up and am quite proud of it.

I can't recall any managers since I started watching the Albion (New Year's Day 1983) who have generated so much interest and general luuuuurv from the fans as Gus. Good on him. A convincing win on Saturday and fans will be wanting him to bless them.

‎"Because he didn't know, he probably given a yellow card without knowing that Tanno had another yellow card. You know when you try to be strong and you dont know why you controlling the game, then the 4th official said well u made a mistake cus you've given a yellow card and you've gotta another one so then you need to go backwards. He went backwards a minute, he went backwards 35 seconds, he made us take the freekick again, he made us take the freekick 5 yards forewards where he book gary dicker for taking the free kick 5 yards forewards! he lost it completely - just gone!" - After the woking game

Its complicated to pick a favourite, but mine would be (as previously mentioned above) when Keys & Gray asked him on Talksport about this being a great time for south coast football, and how he felt about SCC and Bournemouth challenging too?

Gus: [slightest pause] "I don't care about them" :clap2:

Probably working!
I hope you don't mind me bouncing this thread, i nearly started a new one but then found this.
I love everything the man says, but especialy,
Poyet was told of Brighton's good record against Liverpool in their 1980s harvest years. Are the players aware of that history? Poyet said: "No, I don't think so. I don't know if it's in the PlayStation. Maybe, if it's in PlayStation."
