All children love stories and the best ones come from books (not T.V) My four year old loves books his current favourites are the Hairy McLary from Donaldson's dairy stories by Lynley DoddInteresting to see that a few children's books are in peoples lists. For me it is down to the fact that I used to love reading when younger. I have a friend who is a head teacher at a primary school. She tells me that some children arrive at the school not even knowing which way up a book goes.
My soon-to-be 2 year old already has books that he loves, books that he hates and ones that he can live with. He will sit and read (or at least look through the book as though he is reading it) by himself for ages.
I try and buy him new books every week since for me it is important that he grows up not just knowing how to read but also enjoying reading.
